Myself having never read the books (and being slightly thankful for not having to sit through a movie going 'hey they cut so-and-so out! weak!') I can honestly say the movie was spectacular. I watched 'the making of' on Sci-Fi and it was very interesting. The graphics are top notch, the fight scenes coulda been a little more violent but I guess they wanted to stay within the realm of pg-13 to appeal to younger audiences as well. The scenery is breath taking. New-Zealand must be one helluva beautiful place to live in. The detail the film makers went into in creating the scenery was amazing. I will definetly be going to see the next two movies and maybe (meaning: definetly) I'll pick up the books 3:) Overall, this movie was top notch and I recommend everybody see it, LoTR fan or not.

And man, The Matrix's Agent Smith is cool as an elf. Lol.

ok I've seen it. I am sorry it left me hanging in the bad way. I know I will get alot of hate for this, but I am sorry i didn't like it. too many meaningless action scenes and not enough important story information  I really wanted to like it

A few spoilers ahead... don't read if you haven't seen it...

    Well,
In my opinion, that was a necessity of making it a movie. It's 2:58 long as it is, and it *needed* those action scenes (they were just too damn cool not to put in). Besides, Jackson at the least hints at most story elements, even though people who haven't read the books will miss a few. Some story elements didn't get that much exposure, but I'm guessing he'll get to that in the next two. I felt that the corrupting influence of the Ring and the character of Boromir were both well portrayed in this movie. I'm hoping the next will show us a bit more of Gimli & Legolas, though. I also missed the Gimli-Galadriel meeting in the movie, and I really hope they'll mend this in The Two Towers.

One big change from the book was that much of the mystery was taken out. Much of the fun of the books was in not knowing what had happened to Gandalf when he didn't show up in the Prancing Pony, or not knowing what was up with the Horn of Gondor at the end of reading Fellowship (at least, if I remember correctly, it isn't explained until later in the books). Then again, that's probably necessary to make it work as a movie.

I enjoyed it for what it was, and I think I wouldn't have enjoyed it as much if I hadn't read the books a zillion times...

Well the first moive Blade Runner (not director cut) went totaly against the book that
was written in 1949 and was than better moive for doing so. I read the book Do Aniod dream of
electric sheep or some other just title an the book suck. I than alway suspusted when the media
start hyper than moive or book as I suspect they
are trying to sell than inferity moive. Look all
the moive critical where afraid to say anything bad about the moive ALien Planet or something
written by the founder of the cult of Sciencoist. I hear they sent over 200 million
dollar make that Sciencist moive and they only
gross 80 million dollar worldwide on that moive. The moive goer should be terroriz by the Sciencoist Cult.

Ah the church of the posin mind....

anyway the ending was lame, and exactly home many tear moving scenes with heavenly bright lights can one movie have for crying out load. It was like every good guy had some kind of "blessed saint" scene with angels singing.

Gandalf was weak as water, his only two good scenes involed scaring a poor old gnome half too death and the magic sheild. But for an elderly white man he sure could run like a motha he spent at least 1 of the 3 hours either running to or from something.

Christopher Lee rocked, he made the movie and is the only possible reason for seeing the sequel (that and the special effects).

Can you not spoil it for those of us who haven't seen it yet please Eros? Even though I have read the book, I still don't want people telling me details of the movie.

The Church of Scientology was founded by L Ron Hubbard or something like that. Yes, Tom Cruise is a member. They are one of the world's largest cults in my opinion. They have something like 2 million members or so...
