As far as i can tell everything is mainstream. All music, everything. Nirvana fucked up the music scene for everyone. Nirvana inspired green day, green day inspired blink 182. Not that i don't love nirvana, I've got a nirvana t-shirt on right now actually... but yeah.

How the fuck can I say nirvana ruined anything though... I was 8 when cobain killed himself, and I've owned 3 copies of nevermind. God dammit, nothing is avant garde anymore. Except for "the Locust" i guess.

Has anyone here ever heard of the Locust?

No. What's wrong with being mainstream anyway?

That isn't because it is mainstream. Although it is possible to become mainstream due to genericness, being mainstream and being generic do not equate.

Mmmmmmmmm, I mean at this point in time its not very exciting, and while it might be very good, or the singers are slightly better than the lesser bands of the genre or something, its all very boring in my opinion.

i don't mind being mainstream. at least everyone knows what the hell i'm talking about. when you start naming off bands/shows/whatever that no one's ever heard of to prove your non-mainstreamness, you just look like you're trying too hard. and if i do happen onto a band/show/whatever that i like that's completely unknown, i tell as many people as possible about it in the hopes that they will realize their dreams and become rich and famous in Hollywood... the American dream, and all that...

Has anyone yet realized that I (and I assume Jarinor) are joking about the whole "mainstream" thing? Who gives a damn anyway? Everyone listens to the radio sometimes. My CD collection is limited, and so I get tired of what I own sometimes and need more variety. But even so, the radio does piss me off sometimes, because of all the commercials (I know they are a neccesity, but still), and because the "rock" station in my city recently started playing almost exclusively numetal. Screw that.

They arent a necessity, but no rock station will ever get the same financial support as NPR.

Don't you have anything better to do than whine about how everyone flames you, and about how you don't spam (Present tense not past tense. Didn't think I'ld catch that did ya?), and how no one understands the points you make despite the fact that you rarely ever make actual points.

    EDIT: ^ to Wolf

In other words, they are a necessity. Because without finances, the station would fold. Speaking of numetal, does anyone here actually like it?

It's a genre that sometimes includes any metal produced after 99 (or so) that isn't of the old style of metal. But, more correctly, it is a specific, new style of metal seen in bands like Ra, Trapt, Nickleback, Taproot, etc. And it sucks. No musical skill whatsoever, and the vocals are whiny. Give me oldskool (Black and earlier) Metallica, or Black Sabbath, or even AC/DC anyday. Of course, there is some good new stuff out there, like Darkness Falls, a very good, back-to-roots metal band. Anyone here know Coheed & Cambria?

ummm metal=great musicianship if you set aside the fact that anything would sound like crap at 512 beats per second, and the the lore is always a bunch of chauvanist elitist bull shit. The only metal band i like is Cattle Decapitation. Death metal is kinda funny, I mean, necrophelia is always cool, and zombies are awesome, but the fans always suck. I mean, fans usually suck, but they never beat you up at ska shows. I'd get an ass whooping at a metal show, and i'd probably leave with no shoes or something, despite my 6 foot 1 inch, 210 lb frame.

    Thats just my opinion.

numetal=candy for idiotic consumers who are just as macho as metal heads, but with less discerning taste.

As for the rock station thing, I just meant that NPR provides a continually satisfactory product, and therefore can rely on continued financial support through huge and miniscule donations. While Rock Radio will always suck, and will never provide so encompassing a product as NPR and will therefore always have to resort to bail bonds, fast food, guitar center, and car insurance commercials for support.

<edit> that wasnt a rebut, or even an argument, i was just sort of agreeing with you, but explaining what i meant before at the same time.

No, Blinky, I have nothing better to do...Except of course realising what a dumb shit you are. Now that's good! I see you didn't answer my question, so I'll take it as a no.

At least you understood Sigurd. I was hoping to start a whole new trend with insults starting off with "You're still enough of a mainstream faggot...", but I guess it was not to be.

Side note: my 16 year old German cousin is in a German death metal band. Had a mohawk and everything, although I hear it's gone now which is a shame.

As for metal itself, I don't have a fucking clue. If I like it, I like it, and I have no indie pretensions, even though I tend to hate most 'mainstream' music. I literally cannot remember the last time I listened to the radio, but I'll be listening for Triple J's Hottest 100 this year, even though I won't know a single song in the top 100.

I was going to try to keep it up, but other people who weren't perceptive enough screwed it up. Of course, we could start it again....

You're still enough of a mainstream faggot to wear clothes.
