    Some of you may have found that <a href="http://www.greyhawkgame.com">ToEE</a> had some pretty annoying bugs in it. Well, the good news is that a group of fans have gotten together to make a patch that fixes some of those. The minor issues, such as things not quite following strict D&D 3.5 Edition rules as well as some spells that out-right did not work, have now been fixed. Unfortunately, things like monsters stuck in walls and Paladins not quite dieing properly are not fixed. We'll have to wait for an official Troika patch to fix those.
    <br>
    <br>
    In the meantime, here are just some of the things the fan made patch fixes:<ul>
    <br>
    <li>Mona's Orb Quest Fix
    <br>
    <li>All known Scroll bugs have been addressed (bugs preventing scribing, scribing at the wrong level, or didn't do what was advertised (Except Hold Portal. Don't ask us about Hold Portal, ask Troika, We can't fix it.) (All Hold Portal scrolls magically transformed into Grease. All references to Hold Portal removed for confusion sake).
    <br>
    <li>Fixed the damage problems with Flame Strike ... Now correctly does 1d6 * Spell Caster Level (1/2 Fire and 1/2 Divine Damage.)
    <br>
    <li>Improved chances of 'permanency' bug not ocurring with Silence, Web, Soften Earth & Stone and Spike Growth spells.
    <br>
    <li>Cure/Inflict line of spells was incorrectly calculating values. Was adding the caster level to the die size(i.e. lvl 5 cleric uses 1d13). Now correctly rolls and adds caster level.
    <br>
    <li>Numerous problems resolved with wands..(including the 10 lb wand bug, can't craft it, and wrong spell bugs).
    <br>
    <li>Brothel added (the Brothel was originally intended to be in the game, but was removed by Troika in order for ToEE to obtain a Teen rating.)
    <br>
    <li>Burning Hands is now an Evocation spell (as opposed to Transmutation previously).
    <br>
    <li>Item Crafting - Spells which require Fox's Cunning now function as they should.
    <br>
    <li>"Asian Hat" is now called a "Coolie Hat".
    <br>
    <li>Fogless Towns: This modification makes it so that all the exterior and interior areas in the towns of Hommlet and Nulb are removed of the incredibly annoying 'fog of war' effect. You will notice an improvement in your framerate and performance in the aforementioned areas. Combat areas are still the same for a variety of reasons - a couple of them being to retain the elements of surprise and adventure - it's just no fun knowing exactly where to expect combat situations.</ul>
    <br>
    <br>
    There's a lot more too. If you want the full list of all the fixes, read the threads <a href="http://www.co8.org/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=470">here</a> and <a href="http://www.co8.org/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=282">here</a>.
    <br>
    <br>
    You can download the patch from here:
    <br>
    <a href="http://www.kasec.org/toee/fanfix1-1.zip">http://www.kasec.org/toee/fanfix1-1.zip</a> - This installer allows you to choose whether or not to install these optional features: Brothel fix, Fogless Town, Blacksmith selling MW, Potrait wizard & Ioun Stone creation.
    <br>
    <br>
    Thanks goes out to the folks at <a href="http://www.c08.org">Circle of Eight</a> for creating the patch.

    I asked Co8 about T-A hosting the patch. They said sure. You think it's a good idea?

    I know this was primarily targeted towards DU, but as a member of the community I think that would be a good idea. After all, T-A has grown to not only include Arcanum, but rather the entire scope of Troikas games - and as such, we should keep patches and mods for all their available products, not Arcanum only.

    Just my two öre...

    I'd just like to pose a question, it doesnt really matter to me what the answer is but here it goes anyway; what if the fanmade patch isn't compatible with the one troika is inevitably going to come out with? I dont know what could happen but it sounds like you'd possibly be risking some save game losses.

    I have no idea if this is a feasible flaw or not, I'm just wondering.

    You'd just have to wait for a version of the Co8 patch made after the Troika patch (as otherwise there might be issues with new things added in the Co8 patch).

    Yes. As Dark Elf has already said, we need to have the stuff here ourselves. We've currently got approx 70 Mb of stuff sitting on the site, most of that being Arcanum screenshots (from it's development) and inaccessible because the pages are broken at the moment. Given that we are covering all the games now, we'll need content like that for everything. Probably have to check with our hosts or Calis as to what our Mb limit is though...

    Yeah, that was a really long way of saying yes.

    You can remove the Fan Made patch as easily as you install it. Without affecting save games I believe (Ausir, correct me if I'm wrong?). It's like ChrisBeddoes Hard Arcanum, you just put it in the right directories to install it, and to remove it, you just delete those directories. So uninstalling it when an official patch comes out shouldn't be a problem. Of course, an official patch won't have the brothel in it, so another fan made patch will have to be made to include that again.

    Well, the save games will not work with earlier version or Troika patch if you have any of the new items in the inventory (as some new items for custom crafting from the D&D rulebooks were added).

    My guess is that To8, wondrous and laudable fanboys that they are, will quickly repatch any official patch. From what they said they did, it looked like figuring out how to do it was the hard part, while actually doing what they did wasn't so hard.

    I have a question for DandD fanatics out there. Back when I was a tabletopper, in 1st and early 2nd edition days, Burning Hands was an Alteration (Transmutation) spell. I think this was basically to give low-level specialists of the illusionist/conjurer/transmuter type a viable combat spell, as they can't evoke. Is this no longer true in 3/3.5? And if not, perhaps there was a good game balancing reason Troika made it Transmutation. Low level "right side" specialists are notoriously weak, moreso without burning hands. As such, maybe To8 shouldn't have changed that.

    Comments?

    Grand to see a fellow tabletopper :) . I've recently got into it myself. Great fun, really - we're mainly playing 3.5 and Drakar & Demoner (swedish system)

    Well, enough of that blither and back to the topic:

    Burning Hands is now an evokation spell, yes. I don't have the rulebooks, but I have the internet. However, a Transmuter ain't necessarily prohibited from doing some good old evoking - you see, you can choose what prohibited schools you wish nowadays.

    Any fresh specialist wizard chooses two prohibited schools from the list (the exception is the Diviner, who only needs to choose one). So, if you want your Transmuter to blow things up, just don't take Evokation as one of your prohibited schools :)

    Other than that, you could always conjure a summon or use some necromancy, like Chill Touch and Ray of Enfeeblement.

    OK, cool, that makes more sense then.

    In 2nd edition, illusionists were barred from almost every direct damage category. No invoke/evoke, no necromancy. They did have conjuration, but options at low levels are (or were) limited there.

    Thanks for your quick reply, Dark Elf.

    As to the blather, I don't tabletop any more. I wish I could, but options are limited living in Prague and not being fluent in Czech. My get around town vocab doesn't exactly cover rank misty cavern discussions... not yet, at least.
