2 possible explanations:
1. 6 x 9 = 42 because when the question and answer are known the universe changes. Therefore, 6x9 = 42 in the old universe.

2. 6 x 9 is not the true question. Arthur is descended from the aliens which messed up the computer program by coming to Earth. Therefore the result has been altered.

Multiplying properly would be if you took the whole SIX expression and multiplied it by the NINE expression like this - (1+5)*(8+1) which still gives 54. Somebody send whoever made it work like you say back to primary school, please.
