So after delaying updating for 10 years I've jumped from Win98 to Vista and now like so many others can't get Arcanum to run. I've installed and patched the game and supposedly the game starts after I click on it but nothing happens, I just stay on the desktop. The strange thing is the task manager shows that the Arcanum exe is running so the game works I just can't see it for some reason. And yes, I have the very latest video card drivers.
I can't explain the why or the how but attempting to run it in Win95 compatibility mode and then changing back to Win 2000 mode has made it work.
It came perinstalled in my new pc and since I only use it for a little gaming and few other odd jobs I don't rely on it enough to warrant buying a whole other OS.
pls help I have the exatly the same problem with my vista and dont have the option to dual os as only one HDD, i run arcanum nothing happens but when checked i see arcanum.exe running in task manager..i tried that first 95 then 2000 thing nothing changed pls can u tell me what exactly you did to make it run?
You can dual boot even if you have only one hdd with a single large partition on it - most new linux installers can shrink/move a NTFS partition without damaging any of your data, provided the HDD isn't full and fragmented. Then you can just create whatever partitions you may need, although I'll have to admit I've no idea what damage would installing XP do to the vista's bootloader.
