I have no idea. That never really bugged me as much as it does you.

I can't remember which improvements are in which patches, so just take a look at the patch info on the Civ site

Thanks for the link - you saved me a few seconds online. Damn, that's one hell of a patch. I hate those 10MB files. I just hope it'll at least fix screen scrolling. Right now it's rather screen jumping.

    Two more quesitons:

    1. Can I somehow (other than staitoning troops every 4 tiles) protect my roads from being destroyed?

    2. Is communism still the best way to go? It always seemed very funny to me that a game produced in US promoted communism as the best possible choice of political regime.

Im pretty sure once you were further on in civ 2 domocracy was the best way to go money and tech wise and in civ 3 its just alot of work. im sticking with a monarchy these days as you dont get war wearry people and hurry production is money not forced labour, which kills people.

Morrowind - Im lvl 20ish and only traveled a third of the land. I dont know if i could take an add on. Ive been playing for weeks and still feel im crawling my way out of a bucket full of paste. With the add on will they make it that stats go past 100 because the way im seeing it i will have most stats at 100 and i will be about 10 years older. It's a monster and the journal is the crappiest journal i have ever come across. who ever designed it probably has a photographic memory so can remember what page has what on it.

Dragoon, diplomacy backed by military strength is the best way to safeguard your borders. Once someone is taking liberties with territorial issues, there's a good chance they'll escalate it if you don't put a stop to it.

Bear in mind that fear and self-interest are both motivators in Civ. If people don't fear you, their self-interest may cause them to start looking at your resources, even if they are your "friends".

If people DO fear you, their self-interest will cause them (amongst other things) to look for ways to protect themselves, such as allying with others or placating you - or building up their own armies, of course!

The communism thing is pretty funny, although lets remember the game wasn't designed by McCarthy. At first, I was thinking how cool it was that the Civ team were so open-minded. Then I noticed that Communism is only really best for huge, war-prone empires ...

In Civ 2, if you had a large empire, Fundamentalism was the way to go. Made you rich even on no taxes, which meant you could have an insanely high science rate, which gave you new techs every few turns. Really depended on you have a large empire though.

In Civ 3, if memory serves, Democracy or Communism is the way to go for a large empire. I prefer Democracy myself for the increased build rate.

It's tough to play Communism effectively. I think it involves much micromanaging, although it's good for militant players who don't like money.

I have democracy right now and I must admit it's completely different than in original civ. It always pissed me off that citizens started riots solely because I moved some troops out of my city. In civ 3 I can even have a war going on, declared by myself and they're more peaceful than in republic. Of course I find it overtly funny that there is least corruption in democracy considering what I can read in papers everyday.

Of course civ 3 lacks a few things. For example when I propose a deal and it is refused I would like to have an option stating that refusal means was and war is automatically declared. Then if I come in future to propose another deal it might be approached otherwise. Secondly there should be some sort of tool to manage workers better. For example you state that jungle around your city is to be removed and then they are to build a round along a path of your choice. Next you appoint 3 workers for the task, press execute button and they get to work. Moreover it is sometimes hard to detemine which unit will win. Sometimes battle outcomes are really surprising.
Not fluent scrolling is annoying but I'm getting used to it.

Still a great game it is.

I wonder if they'll include my request in the expansion - jumping damage. Now, I hear you saying "But, they already have jumping damage! If you fall from a great enough height, you'll take damage."

Uh uh uh. I want to be able to damage NPC's with my jumps. If I can jump so incredibly high that leaping to the top of the guard towers in Balmora from the top of the Mages Guild can be done (which I can do by the way), then dammit, I want to be able to crush people with my incredible leaps and bounds!

It wouldn't be hard to implement - just classify jumping on someone as an attack, and calculate the damage using physics and a few other things. At least, from my somewhat simplified point of view, this shouldn't be too hard.

To this end, I have created a character whose sole purpose for existing is to reach amazing heights by jumping there.
