So, who's still interested in Morrowind enough to buy this expansion? I never did get into Morrowind like I thought I would. The added features of the expansion might get me going, though. I like the idea of a sorted journal and the ability to stick notes on the map. That would take a lot of the tedium of remembering where certain people or are or where quests started, etc.

I don't think I'll get it. At least, not unless I do a bit more in unexpanded game first.

Morrowind seemed theoretically great; a lot of freedom; original and interesting setting; nice graphics, etc., but something about the gameplay just caused me to lose interest pretty quickly.

I think it was the amount of work involved with playing the game. All the walking around and moving objects about. Plus, the conversation system didn't give the feel of real interation.

Sheriff, I agree with you about the conversation part. Kind of lacklustre. Once you get used to it though, the game does become pretty good. It's just so hard to find stuff sometimes! Like the Morag Tong quest for the 27 Threads of the Webspinner - you have to find 26 of them (there's one for each skill). It's bloody hard, because finding at least half of them is just blind luck.

Yes, I shall be getting Tribunal. Looks to add some really cool stuff to the game. Will anyone else also be getting the Civ 3 expansion?

I'll get the Civ 3 expansion pack as well, as soon as Sheriff Fatman's check arrives in the mail. He promised¹ me that he would buy it for me, seeing as I have sort of a cash flow problem.

¹May or may not have promised

Damn right. I'll by it for you and I'll play it for you, too. Can't say fairer than that.

What I want to know is why Korea is one of the new races in the Civ 3 expansion. Korea? It's not like they were a major player in history like Spain or Carthage (both of which I am very happy to see in the expansion).

I don't even have Morrowind so far not to mention expanion. Nor do I have civ 3.

Since Morrowind subject is back I have a quesiton. Are fights real time or turn based? Also during fights do you have only fpp look or can you switch to other camera views?

Real time. I'm not sure about he camera views, but I think there is at least one more.

Jar, I don't know how they picked the new countries, either. Maybe Korea was important in the history of the East. The significant countries have been picked from a western perspective. Even the Eastern countries are ones that are important in Western history. I dunno. Maybe they think Korea is important in the modern world or will be in the future. Maybe they're just going by population or GNP or something. Maybe a lot of people in Korea play Civ3 ;)

Is Australia one of the new countries?

Even with my lack of world history knowledge, Spain not being in the original CivIII was a glaring exception.

Another country that made me wonder was the USA. Being such a new country, I wouldn't have thought that we would be included. Then I thought to myself, "Wait... where is this game being made again? Right."

Fighting is real time, and unless you patch the game, you won't even know what effect your hits are having until the enemy dies. The patch added a health bar to the enemy, you see.

You can switch between 1st person and 3rd person behind-the-shoulder cameras, but it's tough to use the 3rd person. It's alright for just running around, but in combat 1st person is best.

The USA is tricky. In Civ time scales, the length of time the European nations have existed AS nations is nearer that of the USA than the ancient Civilisations.

Spain, England and France have really only been nations as they are today (rather than indigines, who ended up being conquered or forced to migrate) for about a thousand years, to the USA's 200.

Egypt, Greece, Rome and China (at least) were all major powers over 2000 years ago. Then again, only China is STILL a power.

Civ doesn't seem to limit itself to ancient Civilisations. It includes ones from all the ages it spans.

I'm glad to see the Mongols are back in (I think they were in a previous version, weren't they?). Their empire was HUGE at its height. It covered almost the whole continent of Asia.

Damn real time. I assume it's still playable (unlike Arcanum RT) since there was no thread bitching about Morrowind's RT.

Although the game as a whole failed to engage me, I found the combat very playable. The realtime made it exciting, and the fights were not scarily fast or drearily slow.

Good luck. Say hello to Shaka for me.

Actually, I'm playing it myself at the mo, so I'll say hi to him myself, as I kick his invading minions out of my territory.

Aaaargh! Be damned ye all!!! Why haven't you told me Civ 3 is so highly addictive?! Alliances, deals, finally developed political aspect of creating my empire. I can't wait to backstab somebody. I still have to learn how to play this game though. So far I have some problems to develop army, science and cities equally. Also I need to learn how to locate cities better - I located in a jungle and well, it didn't take long for disease to spread.

Oh one more thing you should've warned me about - I was totally unprepared for Cleopatra's image.

That's the best part! Don't ever feel guilty about it. There can be only one. Besides, through the course of the game, every single civ will happily stab you in the back. I've been screwed over by everyone except for Joan d'Arc.

I can offer a little advice here. Trade for your techs and concentrate on making money. The last time I played (patch 1.21, I think) that was the way to go. As of that patch, it was almost useless for me to try to gain a tech advantage. So I minimized research spending and focused on neglected parts of the tech tree. I then used these to trade for all the techs that the computer researched, which you can get cheaply since the computer passes techs around to each other like they were a rubber doll.

But we DID tell you it was highly addictive!

I'd advice you to get the latest patch (1.29f), since the improvements in the game are notable.

Oooh, really? I feel the shakes coming on... Ah feel the need, the need for... Ceev?

What kind of improvements did the latest patch make? Does the comp still trade techs amongst themselves for free?
