Especially if your character is an elf which gives you more magical aptitude.

Honestly I would prefer tech people but they are so concern building weapons or gadgets or other tech stuff that they tend to forget their melee and constitution just the intelligence. I would prefer Ogres rather.

BTW, I'm talking about the schemes.

 

How do you get a level 23 half-ogre? I thought stats maxed at 20. Was this obtained thru magical bonuses?

If your character's base stat (okay now I get what it means) is more than 8, chances are you will get more points on this one. Penalty wise, you will lose several points from your other skills such as intelligence in case you are a melee user such as ogres.

I am Level 22 Drawf and few creatures can stand my spyglass marksman rifle for 2 hit.

Technology is the great equalizer. A tech halfling with no development of combat skills whatsoever can pose a direct and indirect threat on the battlefield as well as be a successful diplomat.

In the levels covered by the demo, the balanced sword is a superior weapon. Why? Because its attack speed is significantly higher than anything else and it has an above average damage rating. A halfling (chosen for innate weakness, a dwarf or gnome will also do) wielding a balanced sword and wearing one or two charged rings can get 4 or 5 attacks per round without tapping fatigue. Even with a 50% miss rate that character comes out about even in the number of strikes per round compared to, say a melee oriented character. Tha same character with a few points in therapeutics can mix up a little something to be more persuasive when negotiating with NPC's.

That's the beauty of technology in Arcanum, it allows the intelligent chap to parley that into multiple solutions for a myriad of problems.
