Has anyone been following it at all? I've been trying to follow it, though I've only caught the Microsoft conference so far. Still I've seen the highlights of Sony's and I thought it was interesting to see how they completely blew Microsoft out the water by both not having DRM requirements nor forcing players to connect to the internet once a day to play a game, and by having a much more reasonable price too (I would link to an article, but there's literally thousands). I know with Xbox One games you can permanently gift them to friends, and seemingly you can play second hand games if you pay an additional fee - still I can't imagine this fee would be cheap or else only one person in a social circle would buy a game and the rest of their friends would just pay the fee to permanently play it, which effectively negates a person's ability to sell on their unwanted games or acquire second hand games for cheaper than the new sale price I'd imagine in conjunction with the fee. All in all it's quite an interesting turn of events, and I can't really imagine what Microsoft will do now to recover or what they were thinking in the first place.

Apart from that, hopefully the Project Eternity team will present something interesting - I've not heard of anything yet. I think Mario Kart 8 might push me to get a Wii U at some point in the future when it's released and I have money as Mario Kart Wii is my go to game to waste time on when I'm not looking for something more complex, and I'm enticed by the prospect of now being able to fondle pokémon.

    I'm a PC gamer through-and-through, but before I was 15 I was a console guy, XBOX 360 and PS2, PS1 before that.
Things I've noticed with MicroSoft is they usually make a good one, then a crap one, then a good one again.
    (2000, XP, Vista, Seven)

I like the idea of having no requirements for internet.
What if I want to play games when I don't have any internet? Or if I move houses and also don't have the internet connected?
    It's stupid.

I watched half the XBOX conference, I must say I have been waiting half my life for a sequel to 'Killer Instinct', but the fact Rare was bought out by MS ages ago ruined any and all chances of it being true to its predecessor.

There's a reason they got in before Sony on this, they were rushing.
Nobody wants a games console for TV, Sports, Call of Duty with a dog, etc.
They've got all these 'exclusive' games for the XBone, to suck users in. (Killer Instinct, Dead Rising 3, TitanFall)
When really, it's not the console you want, it's the games made for it.

I personally, most likely won't be buying either, at least not for a year or much more, depending on whether or not the games are just as good then and in abundance.

Sony knows they're on top of the game, yeah they're show-boating a bit, but MicroSoft has been going downhill, since Win8, and now with this garbage.
Gamers want new GAMES, not 'redefined' or 'overhauled' gaming.
That's why forums like HoL exist, we still cling to games we love, and how we played them.

I want to be able to share my games with friends when I get bored of them or I am busy or something.
I want to be able to play my games without internet, shit, when the 'net is around I rarely play games on consoles (360 is in shed in box covered in dust, etc)

    That's my opinion so far.
The only thing MS has going for them is the 'features' thing, not the 'gaming' thing, when that's all it should be about.
MS is turning into Apple, so I've grown to hate them equally.

I made a picture on a different forum showing a simple way to improve Xbox One.

Yeah it strikes me as a very bad idea, if there was for any reason a problem with your internet connection or your router or anything else you can't play your games. I keep wondering if they will go back on their less popular decisions, otherwise I'd imagine as a company Microsoft might take a bit of a hit.

I think that's one of my main gripes too, they really seem to play up the non-gaming side to their games console. They especially seem keen on amping up the social networking side of things and sharing gameplay, which whilst it may be nice for producing lets plays most of it will just be idiots showing how well they can pwn 10 year olds at their favourite game. It seems like a waste of resources.

Was disappointed with the new Dragon Age trailer, it reminds me of WoW's first expansion Burning Crusade. That was the only EA game I was still mildly interested in after the Dragon Age 2, Mass Effect 3 and Sim City debacle. It almost makes my self imposed boycott of their games that much easier. In terms of other game previews nothing has really jumped out at me.

I was never an Xbox person and the new console has done nothing to sway me. The anti used games issue doesn't affect me because as expensive as games are in Australia I earn a good wage and can afford to buy them when I want them. That being said it does give me something to stand behind and whinge about. Also the features that they are pushing won't work outside of North America or at the very least won't work in Australia.

Yeah Zanza, you've got a point. A lot of the well-to-do North Americans that want an XBone will have fiber-optic internet for all these web features.
I too live in Australia, good thing is about PC gaming you never have to [strike]'buy' triple-A titles[/strike] go outside to a shop to buy a game.
    [strike]Huehuehue.[/strike]

Here at HoL we never condone nor admit to piracy, Jwrac. Some things should be left unsaid.

    WE'RE ALL LAW-ABIDING HERE, OFFICER.

I like xbox as a rule, but it is a fragile machine. I want to be able to play it 24/7 through a heat wave or a thunderstorm, or drop a brick on it by accident, without it going *phut*.

Clearly, for microsoft, the ideal customer is one who suckles at their online teat and continuously replaces programmed obsolescence with more disposable electronics. Well I say fuck you to that. The ideal customer is actually one that trusts the product.

    It's fine... it's fine... it's PROBABLY fine.
Actually I've never really pirated all that much to be honest. Besides, multiplayer games tend to be useless pirated.
I have like one friend who buys games for me on Steam, whenever he wants to play them, I haven't had to buy anything in quite some time.
PC gaming will always have benefits... but probably less friends that want to come over and lug their PCs along. (though I do LAN game with friends at times.)

Jwrac, either keep any illegal stuff for yourself or face the rage of the admins!

On an unrelated note, here in Mexico we will have the same issues; a crappy internet service, not to mention the speed (Of a whopping 160kb/s!).
Also, there are many locale features that don't work.

As an advantage, the only console I'll ever play is my younger brother's Xbox, once each few months.
(He tells me is saving for the PS4, so, I'll look forward to see it's performance vs a gaming rig.)

That's right, we don't condone anything illegal here, except for illicit substance abuse and paedophilia. And necrophilia. And gerontophilia. In fact, all the philias.

Come to think of it, "Omniphile" would be a rather apt title for Jojobobo.

Y'know, my sympathy is with the police.

I tend to agree with the premise that people are savage and sneaky bastards who need policing.

It's just that I can never trust someone who chooses to do it.

Admittedly, I grew up in Bjekje-Peterson's Queensland, so I learned to treat the police like the Mob, but I still deeply distrust the motives of anyone who seeks the authority of violence in a uniform, especially in the civilian population.

Next thing you'll tell us you've started growing a moustache.

Gerontophilia isn't illegal. Same goes for many other paraphilias.

I didn't say I hated him, I just implied that his government was corrupt, which is a matter of public record.

I do hate him though, insofar as I hate all of the the dead fascists who 'did shit'.

There's not really enough hours in the day to hate all of the predecessors who have clusterfucked the planet, so I only remember he existed when I use his name as a synonym for 'corrupt redneck government'.
