Well, Settler, you could probably nick some beers off your parents, or even persuade them because hey, it's just beer. Being a Queenslander, I am of course partial to XXXX Gold's. VB's are good when they're ice cold, but for God's sake don't get drunk on it. They give you a mean hangover.

Toohey's Extra Dry is supposed to be good, and Hahn Premium Light is probably the best light beer I've ever had. It's true what the ads say - I definitely drink it for the taste. Crownies are too expensive and bitter for most people, so how they got a reputation as a really good beer is beyond me. Carlton midstrengths are okay, acceptable if there's nothing better around.

As for the spirit side, I don't go in for them much, but I quite like Southern Comfort. That puts a fire in your belly and throat for sure.

No way, man. I drink all alcohol first because it's damn tasty, second because it makes me feel good. Not that I usually need a mood boost, but still. I haven't drank to excess since I was sixteen, however; the thrill wore off quickly. Of course, drinking to excess for me is alot more than many people; I need at least nine to ten normal-alcohol level beers to start stumbling. These days I drink microbrewed delicacies, usually running from 7% to 11% alcohol. Besides gourmet beer, I also am quite fond of wine (as an Italian, how could I not be?), and certain types of liqour mixed with other things. Well, I generally drink Maker's Mark and other types of hard whiskey straight. My favorite mixed drink is Frangellico in a glass of milk. Other milk-and drinks contain Godiva White Chocolate, Bailey's Irish Cream (and in coffee, of course), and Ameretto.

My father actually brews the stuff and its not very good. Maybe your batch is better and my dad can't make alcohol (he can't) or it really taste bitter. You can still get drunk from it so thats a plus.

Call me homophobic, but I would never drink a liquor called Beefeater.

You know sort of have to agree with jarinor's opinion when it comes to my own alcoholic practices...

Like I said I never get *drunk,* but if I'm at a party and someone has something like say... tequilla, I'll do a few shots (3-5) just to get a buzz going. Thats all I need, and its all I can stand. I really hate the taste of beer, Coors Light is like satan's urine, I can stand a few *mexican* beers, like corona etc, solely because they're weaker when it comes to the whole beer flavor, and a nice chunk of lime in the neck makes it go down a lot better. Other than that, I stay away from alcohol. The rum and coke wasnt that bad, it didnt taste like urine, it was kind of like vanilla coke with a dash of gasoline.

Then again I guess I could understand it if you like the taste, Sigurd, I mean, I actually know a few people who drink black coffee for the flavor. :puke:

Black Coffee: Good if it's a quality varietal
Maker's Mark: Great, but I prefer Knob Creek. Makers is the best for a Manhattan or Old Fashioned.
    Vodka: Only Luksosowa. Cold.
Gin: Tangueray 10, maybe Sapphire, and I can only drink it in a martini.
Beer: Belgian first, especially Abbeys, then american microbrews, preferably IPAs or Pale Ales, then Scottish ales, then Czech beer
Wine: Spanish for red upmarket, Moldavian for downmarket, French for white upmarket, Moravian for white downmarket, but there's so much good stuff out there.
Scotch: McCallan 15yrs or more. Awesome.
Irish: there are so few single malts available outside Ireland, and the only one I can remember is Bushmills 10yr malt, which wasn't very good.

I don't really dig rum or tequila.

All that, and I get drunk about twice a year. GUess I drink for the taste. With what I like to drink, I can't afford to get drunk.

tequila is evil... get drunk on that shit, and you start puking up things you didn't know you ate... although, contrary to popular belief, eating the worm does nothing.

as for southern comfort, that's my absolute favorite. i love the fact that it's utterly smooth going down, then three seconds later you feel like you're burning from the inside... makes shots a blast :p

Ahhh, the old times when I used to have tequila races with my mate. That stuff IS evil.

I managed to acquire the taste of beer by the age of 15, then unacquire it by about 23. Since then I mainly drink cider (the real stuff, not the American soft drink by the same name).

Southern Comfort is great. I love it, but I've yet to develop a technique for drinking a glass of it without getting sticky all over.

At the moment I hardly drink at all.

Yeah, I fucking love Southern Comfort shots. Exactly how you described. Surprisingly enough, I'm more affected by beer than shots - I can have 5 shots of SC in 10 minutes and only feel tipsy, but if I have 5 beers in that time I'd be well on my way to being off my face, even though there'd be roughly the same alcohol content in both.

Southern's not bad, but i prefer Wild Turkey myself, i've also been partial to an Ouzo and coke as well, go figure. If i was going to recommend a beer... then i would have to say REDBACK, it's a West Aust wheat beer, and not at all what you expect it to be.
I also have some news for us Aussies, there's a new beer coming out in Feb... the 17th i think, it's a ginger beer... yes, an actual GINGER flavoured beer. Quite tasty, but somehow i don't think it's going to be hughly popular unfortunatly.

I was going to make a witty and urbane comment on Sheriff's little "sticky" comment, but i couldn't get past the giggling stage.... oh well.

Before I'm-more-Cockney-than-a-roomful-of-Pearly-Kings-Milo gets there first, I'd like to point out that "ginger beer" is rhyming slang for "queer" and if you wanna be walking into a london pub and saying "gimme a pint of the ginger" you'd best make sure you know what kind of a pub you're in (ie. there's no Abba playing or people sitting around gossiping about Liza Minelli).

That's awsome. Rhyming slang is incredible, and it's just too bad it's not in use in the States. My favorite? Rubble. "Barney Rubble - Trouble!" Yes, I did learn that from Ocean's Eleven. There aren't enough Brits in my area. Although one fellow did just move into a farm down the road from my parents house. He is married to a black former actress who was in Ally McBeale and other shows I can't remember right now. Interesting folks.
