Because that shit stings. On a related note, I thought it was time for someone to bring up SOPA and PIPA. What do you think of the bills? I think it's safe to say they're a bad idea. If they get passed it seems like there would be no more social networking sites, online reviews, blogs or any sort of that thing. Honestly I don't get the point of trying to police copyright infringement when this is the price that is payed for it, and even with the bill I doubt it will prevent it entirely anyway. It seems like if the corporations pushing for bills are still turning a good profit than effectively ruining the internet just to squeeze a little more is pretty ridiculous.
Who gives a shit about 'em 'mericans and their politics. It's not like it'll affect other countries. E.g. it's completely legal in China to download an mp3 of any song. The most popular search engine here offers this service for free. The Internet laws and regulations are different in each country and it's not a problem at all. Yes, there's no Youtube/Facebook in China, but the Chinese have their own sites that cater to their interests much better. Come to think of it, this is actually an effective way to fight globalization. Instead of sucking the Western cock like the Japanese, the Chinese have set up their own social networks and streaming video sites.
I find it hard to believe other countries will be entirely unaffected by this, maybe not China but certainly other western countries. If America passes the bills it would almost certainly stir up similar groups in other countries and so other governments would likely conform so as not to lose face, either internationally or just because they don't want to be seen to be doing nothing to prevent internet piracy. I guess maybe other countries might pass more moderate laws, but there's no guarantee of that. Who knows, maybe things will go back to the times when pirated CDs and DVDs were bought from a shady looking character out of the back of a van.
We use that too. Pipa, pizda, picza and cipa are the most common Polish vulgar terms used for female genitalia.
The people pushing these bills steal intellectual property just as much as anyone they're targeting. Just another example of a law that applies to the many underneath and not the few in power.
@TDS "Cyc" or "cycek" is colloquial name for woman's breast, equal to a "tit" in English. It even sounds quite similar. Plural: "tits" is "cyce"/"cycki" with the latter being more common. I sure hope those bills go down. The struggle will continue however as the lobby is strong. Of course passing those bills would affect other countries. Oh, and good luck "fighting globalization", Drog. Have you tried windmills?
How is 'c' pronounced in Polish? There's the Russian word "sis'ki", which has the same meaning. And then there's also "tit'ki", which is suspiciously very similar to English. Hey, maybe we should have a thread for swear words in various languages. Especially since most people here aren't native English speakers, this could be entertaining. About globalization. I'm not going to fight it. I'm just playing for the winning team, the Han Chinese.
I agree, why go against the flow? All glory to the winning team! I'd also like to add that, tempting though it may be, I've decided not to seize the dragon throne over a mountain of my enemies. Also, I promise not to steal the peaches of immortality, terrorise the fairy maidens or to try to take heaven using kung fu and sorcery.
@Drog Why don't you share some links to those Chinese social networks and streaming video sites. I might as well start getting used to them now since all the Internet is going to be "moved" to China sooner or later "C" in Polish is pronounced "ts" as in "tits". Btw. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-16642369 Megaupload file-sharing site shut down "The site's founders have been charged with violating piracy laws. Federal prosecutors have accused it of costing copyright holders more than $500m (£320m) in lost revenue. (...) A federal court in Virginia ordered that 18 domain names associated with the Hong Kong-based firm be seized. (...) The Justice Department said that more than 20 search warrants had been executed in nine countries, and that approximately $50m in assets had been seized."
Yeah, the American feds were able to arrest people in countries such as New Zealand, so...about that... I'm not saying it's right, I'm just saying it happened. That crossed my mind as a pang of guilt pierced my heart after I posted about Polish tits. I did not mean to continue to derail this topic, but I was too curious! I'm glad to see it regain its traction. ...Anonymous: the Last True Freedom Fighters! Have I mentioned that I love this stuff? I don't know that firing Low Orbit Ion Canons at the US Department of Justice is the answer, but I'm sure glad somebody is doing it. The dystopian cyberpunk future is here! Now! Embrace it!
