I am running a mage(Fire and Force mostly) with a bit of melee(3 pts, just to save mana), and I want to add a little defense on him. I am debating if I should invest in dodge or not. I've been dieing quite a bit up to now, so I guess I could be useful, but I could just invest those points in intelligence for the temoporal line, which would also make me untouchable in close combat. Ofcourse, that would require a whole lot more points(I only have like 12 in intelligence), so I'd need to save a lot more to use those temportal spells. Alternatively, I could just grab Stun for defense, with 3 points of back stab so I can stun and then clobber my oppent with the staff. It's 5 pts, makes me powerful at melee, and does not require any intelligence.
Spells not affected by Magical/Tech Affinity So I am starting a tech gunslinger char, as my mage is so powerful its boring. I wanted to add a bit of magic to him, just to take advantage of his high int. I am wondering which spells are not affected by affinity? I know the elemental buffs arent, as well as the Sheild spell, so I am grabbing Fire, Stone and Force 1. I am now left with 2 spell slots. I was considering getting the illumination spell, so I can have two handed weapons with no light penalties. I was particulary wondering if the Ork champion spell is affected by affinity like the undead or animal ones. Any help? Otherwise, how about congeal time?
Most Summoning spells are affected by MA and I'm fairly sure this goes for the Orcish Champion as well, unimpressive as the spell might be. The Temporal College is not affected by aptitude however and is a common choice amongst gunslingers. You'll be the fastest gun in the west, no doubt at all about that.
Tanks Dark Elf! For my mage my dex is 13 I think and my MA is pretty high. I dont think I'll need it tho, I just got to a point when nothing goes through my 5 meatshields, and I got too bored to go on.
How about lockpick vs the unlock Cantrip? is there any reason to invest 5 points in a skill when 2 can do the same?
Unlocking Cantrip is noisy and in cramped spaces it can be impossible to use it without alerting nearby guards. Also, you need a very high MA to unlock the more difficult locks. Pick locks is comparatively silent and discreet.
Mind you, screen scrolling affects detection! It's possible to rob the mage shop blind in Tarant, without anyone going hostile, if you position the screen at the appropriate places. And of course if you have 100 MA.
