    Nice work!

How balanced is the map for general use? I mean, it can be pretty awesome since it's a recreation, but the technicalities of the Tarant Station may not really make for a nice FPS map. Does it work well or are you still working on it?

    Cheers ^_^

I haven't tried versing bots in it yet because I'm still creating the bounds of the level. I want to finish the river side wall on both sides of the main building (and other things) before I test with bots.

    The reasons being
    1) The river will contain a water volume which will slow down people movign through it, changing the pace of the game (as the rivers are reasonably sizeable)
    2) I'm going to have it that you can enter the train (even though it's pretty cramped) and I'm not sure how that'll turn out. Before I make the train mesh and export it to UT3, I'll make a super simple version using the UT3 editor to try out the pathing. This may end up being the final thing I use depending how hard the export/import tutorials are.
    3) I need to add blocking volumes to prevent people translocating above the walls (and seeing endless void outside the station :p) as well as at both station ends.

When I finish all that, pathing will be quick and easy to do, so I'll be able to test the layout and flow of the map quickly then. So far I've just walked around to see if the map looks right, and it's surreal seeing the station from a FPS perspective and getting an appreciation of how big it actually is.

P.s. the river and grass will be lacking in 3D models because it crashes when I try and put to many small 3D models in. UT3 is not forgiving in the rocks and grass department.

    Update:
Turns out it doesn't crash if I turn off render grass meshes and wooden beam meshes when bulding all. Huzzah!

Just remember the large rock at the end of the tracks. Wasn't there a tunnel somewhere, too?

Don't worry, I haven't. As for the tunnel, it is really far away, so I'm not sure whether the player will be able to see it (I ran for ages in Arcanum to get to it).

    Nice work so far

I wouldn't worry about the tunnel either, it was really only a cheat so that the Troika guys didn't have to actually place tracks linking all the cities on the world map.

It looks indeed very cool. I also have a question: is it possible to make some moving trains, so that the players have (has) to dodged them?

Sorry I haven't posted anything in a while, but uni's been intense, so I probably won't update much till my exams are over (3rd year's a b***).

    Anyway, progress so far:
    - The rivers' are going ok, can't find a rock texture for them yet, but I'll keep looking.
    - As for the train, possibly, but I'm not sure how I'd do the pathing (when the train stops at the station it couldn't hurt people but would block pathing; that and the Tarant station is at an end of the line).

    Update: 20th June, 2009

Exams are finally over! Now I can go back into this

    What I've done recently:
    - Finished the geometry of the north river, just need to find a rock texture (which is proving difficult, but who knows) and put in the rocks and water volume
    - Put in the bounding volumes to keep people inside the train station area

After that I'll continue work on the south river and wall bellow the station.

    Update: 22nd June, 2009

I've had plenty of time to work on this and boy has it progressed ^_^. Rock texture is found, south river is done and bot paths are in! And some more static meshes are in too.

    Still to do:
    - Weapon and item pickups
    - Fix lighting on rivers (tried loads a things, still doesn't work tho)
    - Benches and carpet inside the main station building
    - Learn how to import 3ds max models into UT3 and make the train model (tried this before but the ut3 main site for editor help is useless here)
    - Do the rock at the end of the station
    - Fix sky mesh

Here's some pics of my work so far (the insert image button doesn't work for some btw)

    Update: 16th November 2009
Wow I totally didn't realize it's been half a year already. Must have got distracted and then uni came. Boy it was one brutal-intense semester. Still, my exams are over (again :p ) so I can get back to it.

I think I won't try and get a moving train working. I think I could get an approximation of it working but, there'd be problems and I'm not sure I want to get into it.

I have done the weapon and item pick ups, still got the rest to do.

    Update: 14 January 2010

:p I'm hopeless at this aren't I? Something distracted me, but oh well. I'll get a bit done today and (hopefully) more over the next week or so. Recovering from surgery at the moment (can't sit, can only kneel) so I won't be able to do much at each "sitting". Gonna review what I've done so far and get to work. The sky box should be easy to fix, since I think it's the fault of that particular mesh, rather then anything else.

Edit: Wow, I've done alot more then I thought.

    Done today (so far):
    - Fixed Sky box
    - Continued work on lighting

    To do:

    - Rock
    - Train (Will just use editor objects for now)
    - Fix lighting on river
    - Benches inside the station (maybe add some pick ups there)

    Update: 15 January 2010

Well I think the lighting is as good as it's gonna get. For reasons that escape me, lighting on the river only works if you're looking in a particular direction. I think I'll just move on to the rock and station benches.

Edit: Rock done, working on benches and some weapon pick ups

Edit: Benches done and weapon pickups done, might add in some light meshes and ordinary pick ups to the station proper before I start the train. Shouldn't take long

    Update: 16 January 2010

Lights and pick ups done, now I'm going to make the train out of existing editor objects. Once that's done, i'll put up the map as a beta

    Update: 18th January 2010

All carriages done, just the engine to go pretty much

    Update: 20th January 2010

Tender done, just the main engine itself. Hm.. maybe after that adding a few path nodes and weapon pickups to take into account the train, but that shouldn't take very long.

    Update: 21st January 2010

    Here's some pics:

    Edit:

Train is done, just got a bit of pathing work to do and I'll be able to upload it to see what you guys think. I love how pathing works in the UT3 map editor. So much is automated and mostly, things just WORK!

    Edit:

Map's basically done, not sure about what fileupload site to use, anyone know any good ones?
