I visited Larian Studios a long time ago to get a first-class demonstration of an early version from the company boss himself. I wrote a bigass, two-part preview on it, too. The site it was on bit the bullet, though. And I still need to get the full ver. I have very little time to actually play...

I've just got Div Div myself, and having got frustrated at the constant crashes, changed to DDraw, instead of D3D, and am now thoroughly enjoying it! Obviously my computer doesn't like D3D for some reason.

Anyway, I have now got as far as completing the first main quest, and have ventured outside Aleroth for the first time. I'm only level 8, but so far, am very pleased with the character development.

Does anyone know how high a level you can get to, and how many skill points you receive in both skills, and abilities? I'd like to plan my character a bit if I can.

Also, does anyone know what to do about the find Georges killer quest? I've talked to everyone in Aleroth, and they aren't telling me anything. :-?

First, about George. Don't expect to finish all quests immediately, or even make any progress in them. Some quests are short, some obvious, but some are longer and only become clearer as you meet more people in new places.

I have about 10 - 15 unsolved quests on my list at any given time.

Also bear in mind that DivDiv quests can be peculiarly physical. I've occasionally found myself shifting around piles of rubbish to unearth an item or door. This relates to quests in general, not Georges murder quest, which I haven't solved yet.

About skills, you might want to consider not getting hung up on character planning. I've pretty much just taken a few skills I liked the look of and developed them. I beliieve you can get 5 levels in each skill.

Some things I have learned about skills:
    • lockpick is very useful. I dodn't want to take it, because I hate the way there is always a "thief" route in RPGS (amounting to taking a few thiefly skills and no-brainer clicking on objects). In the end, I found there were just too many locked things and my curiousity was killing me, so I took it.
    • alchemy is fun and useful
    • items give some really handy skill bonuses sometimes

I may pick up Div Div on the holidays, but I just started playing D2X again. I know, I can't believe it myself. But the lure of killing unlimited amounts of demons and undead from afar was too great!

So, Fatman, you've had the game for a while now. How would you rate it?

I rate it excellent! I am still playing avidly (interspersed with UT2003). I'll write more when I stop playing it or have finished it.

    Thanks Sheriff.

I'm now out of Aleroth, and have clear the surrounding area. However, I'm finding it tedious to explore the next area.

Can you possibly tell me how big the next area is? It would help a lot in trying to explore, and whether it is worth it or not.

Also, I've taken your advice and put a point in lockpick.

Again, also, is there any point in putting any more than 1 point in repair? By repairing everything to 60%, you can keep all of your equipment functioning, and there doesn't appear to be any penalty to things being damaged, other than you have to repair them more often - which isn't a problem. That and you can sell things for more if they're in better condition.

I didn't put any points in repair, but I suppose it might help. I did wander round once with some broken armour until I found a smith, but I'm a mage so it didn't matter much.

As for exploration ... you COULD wander around the whole game. It isn't divided into areas, it's just one big world. However, I suggest getting on with some quests. If you've only got one or two, follow them up.

You may not realise this (if you haven't read the manual or exlpored the interface), but in your diary, there is another - larger - automap. Red flags get marked on it for locations people have told you about. If you zoom it right out and scroll it around a bit, you should find at least on interesting location (unless you've been telling everyone to piss off and somehow avoided getting quests).

Exploration IS fun in this game, but I wouldn't recommend wandering around aimlessly the whole game.

One thing about this game I find particularly nice, is the teleport system. It's not like you have to go and finish a big ass quest and then all teleports are usable, you have to get a scroll from each race to get all teleports working. I don't know about you but I've also found some use of the teleport stones.

Great game I recommend everyone with enough time on their hands to buy it (I know lots of you just download it although I would like to see some support for the developers).

Hey, where the bloody buggery are all these old timers coming from?

The teleporters are great. You rarely, if ever find yourself hauling your ass all over the show on foot. The teleporters stones are just marvellous. They make having your own little personal base a reality and take the inconvenience out of maintaining a collection of items you'll never use but can't bring yourself to sell.

Perhaps I ought to make that 'little base' you suggested. I'm currently lugging loads of weapons around that I can't use yet, but are extremely nice weapons!

I've got quite far now - well into the next main area, and have solved about half of the given quests.

Just one thing I need to know. When and where do you find the first real merchants? I really, really, really, need one, so I can sell some of those nice weapons and armours that I'll never use and get better equipment.

Two double posts in a row. How about that?

Anyway, people, out of 10, 100 or whatever rating system you use, how would you rate Div Div?

I thought I'd give you an update. I've completely explored the main map area, Verdistis and the Dark forest. I'm leaving the main plot for now, but I've managed to complete 3 ways of getting an invitation into SF castle so far, and am up to 42 rep, and level 31.

I'm practically invincible, with magick and decent fighting skills, plus several survivor skills. I must say that the skill system is really good, not tie-ing you down to any predetermined class. I'm also saving some skill points for the use in the survivors' divine skills. I'm assuming you get these near the end of the game?

If noone has got it yet, and is thinking of buying it, then I suggest that you do! It will simply suck you in, and drain of of any will to click on that little 'quit' button at the bottom of the main menu. :D

The only annoying thing is, that you can completely ruin some major quests by doing something early on, that breaks a quest you have not got yet. a prime example of that is the holy weapons quest. I got all weapons, and headed off to the holy cavern, but when I got there, it said I couldn't do the quest, because right near the beginning of the game, I had touched the altars!! I had to load a really old save game and start again from there! That's about 30 hours of pure gaming time, without the random wanderings of the prior game, just to get back to the stage I was at!!

Apart from that, it's a fantastic game. Get it!

...and don't touch any important-looking things in hidden or difficult to get to rooms, unless you have a quest that pertains to that room.
