I think that they should have something in the game where you could use your followers to distract gaurds and other people while you pick locks. It would be awesome if you had Virgil go talk to some gaurd and *cough* or something right while you pick the lock. That would be great!
There's already something similiar to that. It's not quite as realistic as what you suggested, though. Say there's a lock you want to pick, but there's a guard standing right next to it. What you do (if you any prowling skills) is go right up to him and hit prowl. He'll turn to face you because he notices you. Do this in such a way that when he turns, he'll be facing away from the locked object. Then un-prowl, walk some short distance away, re-prowl, walk up to the door and pick the lock. If your skill is high enough, he won't notice you sneaking up to the door.
That's something I may have to try. I usually talk to them and get them to face the other way, and then I pick the lock and just pray that they don't notice. They usually do.
Yeah, prowling's a great skill to have. Especially when you get a high level of it, and you can attack people without them noticing where you are.
How exactly does prowling work? I have it full/master on one of my chars, but I never really understood it.
Well, you click on the "thief skills" button or whatever it's called, and you click the mask button to enter prowl mode. But, you probably knew that already. It works like this. When you're in prowl mode, you can run your cursor over people that are around you. In the little information window, there should be an indicator of your status, ie whether they notice you or not. If they don't notice you, then you're good to go. There're different "danger-levels" before they notice you. I don't remember them exactly, but they go something like: - "Safe". Meaning you're in the clear. They don't notice you at all. - "Risky". Your still in the clear with this one. - "Dangerous!" If you hit this then you are just about to be noticed. - "Aware!!!" Pretty self-explanatory, this one.
When their "Aware" of you, do they know that your prowling and try to kill you, or do they see you and think all is normal, and basically not care?
They don't attack you, but their dialogue will change if you talk to them and they're aware that you're prowling (or was that Fallout 2?). It's usually the thing that you are prowling for (like picking locks) that'll get you attacked, not the prowling in and of itself.
Yeah, well, since their no suggestions board, I can post my suggestions here without him bitching at me, and I realize the game is out already but I was just giving my opinion.
