It would seem you're not the only one, since there doesn't seem to be a hard and fast rule about it.

I find this to be a good rule: Anything older than two weeks in the GD, anything not on the first page in any other section (excluding news section) is dead and buried.

I expanded the gravedig rule from one month to 'a couple of months', which makes it less well defined and gives people a little more leeway.

Will fix the ooopsies for DU and Taluntain.

If the topic has been inactive for anymore than 1 week don't dig it up to add your meaningless opinion. If its been dead for more than 2 weeks don't dig it up for anything more than a DEFINITIVE answer and beyond 3 weeks let it die.

There are exceptions but if you don't know what they are don't bother to ask and find out I'll just ignore you.

I will always adhere to this rule regardless of what the FAQ says.

Everybody seems to have a different opinion of what a gravedig is. This bodes ill.

In actuality, it bodes chaotic. Which is as it should be. If we start making discernible rules, soon we'll have order and neat, logical posts, and WHERE WILL IT END?!?

We already have a set of discernible rules, though, we just don't like to freely admit it. Such things as the "1,000 posts and personality to achieve custom avatar" have turned the forum into a functioning society rife with order.

Pfffft BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Nice one Grakelin! You almost had me going for a minute there!

Honestly... common sense and order in HoL... hell would freeze over first.

Actually, common sense is the order at HoL. Use a little common sense and we won't try and eat your soul. Show you lack common sense and a mod will ban you and your entire country for spawning you.

Apparently sarcasm has once again been lost in translation.

    FAQ you, Xiao. FAQ you.

As for gravedigging...eh. Do we want to have people make new threads on old subjects, or gravedig the old thread and reuse 'em like bad condoms?

Or is the rule mostly just there to be a shibboleth for those who read the FAQ and give Xiao an excuse to whack people with shovels?

Would it be acceptable to have a general FAQ super-stickied as a forum-wide announcement?

I can often empathize with people who are reprimanded for not reading the FAQs because the FAQ thread is not very accessible. People are berated in the Arcanum forums for not reading the FAQ in the GD forum. Quite a few people join to discuss Arcanum exclusively at first, so why is the thread tucked away in only one forum?

A global announcement super-sticky could fix the accessibility issue. What do other members think?

    Regards,
    Sky

P.S. I agree with all of what Philes wrote.

I suppose moving it to the right forum is a good idea. Dunno how to make it span more then one forum though.
