    Fantasy is for homosexuals.

wobbler, you should read Njals saga. It's an old Icelandic story on about 300 pages, and has way more content than anything you could ever imagine. And fighting scenes reminding you of the Salad Days sketch by Monty Python.

Definitely one of the best sagas. I found a free downloadable English version ("Burnt-Njal's Saga") just to laugh at the translation, but it's still amazing.

Tell that to the people painting the covers, with the bare-chested musclebound "heroes" prancing about...

No, you're right: there are a few featuring a lithe heroine clad in a plate armour bra and loincloth. Appealing as that may be, it rarely marks an improvement in the actual contents, though.

Theres only one solution to this.

Hey everyone, Telcontar can't get past Tarant and he's had the game for a year.

I demand an explanation in regards to your clear lack of game-playing prowess, Telcontar!

Yeah good one Richard..... have had bad luck the last few times I have played, i.e. every time I leave the game for a week my saved game becomes corrupt and wont load. Interestingly enough when I loaded my game the other day, both myself and Virgil were naked on the edge of Worldmap with just grass and a chest offering everything you are able to purchase at the very start.

"It" referring to Njála, as the Icelanders put it. Actually, I found two English versions for you:

The story of Burnt Njal -- From the Icelandic of the Njals Saga http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/17919

The Story of Burnt Njal: the great Icelandic tribune, jurist, and counsellor http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/597

But be warned; neither is as good as the Swedish version by Hjalmar Alving (and they're also much older).

Is the one by Hjalmar Alving the new translation? I think I read one made by some female person, and it seemed a bit old.

No, Alving is the "classic" translation. :) I think it's from '36 or something.

This "female person" -- would she be the one who helped with Heimskringla? I think they had a lady translator involved there. (How is it possible to forget everything when I have the damn books on a shelf just a few metres away? How is it possible to be so damn lazy as to not take the few steps and go look? How is it possible, or legal, for me to talk to myself when trying to answer mathboy? How is it possible I just keep typing without hitting the damn Submit button soon? How is it possib

I knew I was going to do something before returning the book to the library yesterday. Thank you for reminding me what it was so I won't have to lay awake trying to figure it out.
