Well, everyone needs to chill out now and then.

Anyway, if a major miracle happens, by the first of December I'll have (again) one of the rarest pieces of Star Wars merchandise in the world.

Shortly after the first movie took off, Mattel was licenced to produce these R2D2 coolers. For the first 2 years of production they used a heavy translucent silver cellophane for the top panels. The cellophane did not handle UV light very well and became brittle and crumbly rather quickly. In late 1979, they switched to plexiglass.

Until a month ago, only two of the cellophane-topped ones were known to still be in good condition. Now there's three.

The one I bought in '79 and have had in storage down in Arizona since 1988 has the cellophane panels and - according to my sister - is still intact.

If! - those panels can hold together for the shipping up here, there's a rabid Star Wars fan right here in town who's willing to give me $12,000 as-is - dust and all - for it.

How's that for a "poop-cooler"?
