Once again I find myself relying on the wisdom and experience of the fine group of hackers and modders that you all are. My request is this-can anyone teach a virtually hacking ignorant to add into the game's files a custom background, complete with ridiculous bonuses to many stats and spells, or maybe to say, alter one of the pre-existing ones to my whims?

Any help here would be hot.

    Thanks

A good FAQ for background creation can be found here:
    http://www.actiontrip.com/cheats/arcanum.phtml

There are a lot files; just download the "Backgrounds Editing FAQ." (Obviously.) Follow the instructions, and you should be on your way to cheaply produced one-man killing machine. Good luck . . . not that you'll need it afterwards.

I seem to be having a problem with this. I followed the instructions exactly, however whenever I try making a new character and go ing to where the custom background is, it crashes the game. Can anyone help?

you must have forgotten a { or } . I have been trough the same thing, go check the files and see if all the { and } is there. 1 { or } is all that it takes

I tried this and it still doesn't work. I checked all the {} and i have my background desc short. it might be that i'm over 5 in each, but i've only got 4 stat mods and 4 skill mods. Any others like this?

I got that when I first tried making a custom background. I then copied the text out of it and into notepad and then deleted all relevant files and created new one from scratch, copying the text back into it the new files (thus they were identical to the original ones) and then the backgrounds worked. Go figure?!

You can start with any of the found schematics though.
