I don't have a source (seriously, google for the win, nub), but I can concur that I also heard that Mormons become gods of their own universes from a member of the Religious Studies faculty.

    There you have it.

Now, there is actually a Mormon Temple some 500 meters from where I live.

Perhaps I could help out with the deification process?

I wonder if it's something that they generally don't admit to.
Like the Scientologist and their space ghosts. (No. Not THE Space Ghost. He was cool. I hated the monkey, though)

Papa_dog, if the scientologists actually believed that Space Ghost was a part of a real theological system, I'd have an even better reason to laugh at Tom Cruise.

I had a friend who was a Mormon once. He was actually a pleasant, upstanding guy. Honestly, I don't see anything wrong with a religion where you become a God when you die. If it was a suicide cult, I could see an issue, but when you compare it to

    - Becoming an eternal slave, but only if you're nice enough (Ancient Egyptian, Christianity)

    - Coming back as somebody else (Buddhism, Wicca)

    - Getting immense satisfaction for exactly 40 days, after which life suddenly gets stale (Islam)

    - Going to an eternal battlefield (Norse)

    - Merging with other dead in your family to form a guardian spirit (Shinto)

    - Being incinerated of buried and entering oblivion and having nothing happen to you but unable to experience it because nothing is happening to you and creating a paradox beyond the scope of human beings' ability to grasp (Atheism)

I'd say that Mormons actually aren't all that far off their rocker.

I thought the problem with mormons were polygamy and denial of technology?

Polygamy yes, denial of technology is mostly down the Amish's alley though.

Not truly eternal as you'll get your forehead smashed in by a giant at Ragnarök anyway. Besides, going to a field of battle every day at least has some excitement to it, and you get beer, bacon and wenches every night.

I quite like the thought of reincarnation, actually. I'm not a Buddhist as such, but I certainly believe in a fair amount of the same things that they do.

I only have one problem with the idea of reincarnation: Life's a bitch and then you die; life's a bitch and then you die; life's a bitch and then you die.....

There are some Christian sects (do not remember which ones) which believe that the life we're in is Hell and if you didn't serve God you reincarnate.

 That's a good one! Still, can you imagine coming back as a rabbit? You hope around, look cute and cuddly, and get more sex than non-porn star humans could ever dream of. I'm willing to wait a few more lives to ascend if I can get a stint as a rabbit in.

A domestic rabbit, sure. A wild rabbit, hell no. I'd be too low on the food chain. They leave their parents when they're the size of a two week old kitten. If I could come back as anything, I'd be a giant galapagos tortoise.

I would rather be reborn as a human, but it would be cool that I will be in another country. Also, it would be a great joke that I will come back as a female.

Now, the question I have regarding reincarnation is, would you know you were reincarnated?

I think you will be a bit confused, when you know you were reincarnated. That why I only want to know what I did wrong, to prevent that I will make the same mistakes.

PS: Perhaps I will have siblings this time then.

BTW: Do you want to be reborn in the same country, or the same gender?

If the dharmic people are right, then all the empirical evidence would point to a solid "no".

Well if it's true, then that would explain the complexity of social structures we find in the wild despite a lack of complex verbal communication. It could mean that the size of a brain doesn't matter.

Fuck if I joined the wrong military. I went to battle and all I got was hot water bottles, MRE's/ T-Rats, and used porno mags.

Okay. I've been out for a while. T-Rats? Anything like A-Rats or LRPs?
and there's something to be said for used porno mags as long as you can find the ones that aren't 'glued' together.
