I have a difficulty identifying and understanding sarcasm and its uses. This prevents me from completely comprehending what is being communicated on this forum which means that my experience on this forum differs from expectations. I once encountered a person who didn't understand symbolism and metaphor (which is a common way of thinking with me) so they had difficulty understanding things that I tried to communicate. I am wondering what difficulties others on this forum have so that way I and other interested parties can learn to adapt and/or compensate for the inablities of other posters. Please post your difficulties and/or inablities that can affect how others communicate to you so that we have single thread to use for reference. Thank you.
I have read that some studies identified a certain gene linked to comprehension of irony. Sarcasm is a kind of verbal irony, where the apparent meaning is the opposite to the actual meaning. It occured to me then that the american population seemed to have a relatively large proportion of folk unable to process irony and that this led to a lot of the completely unabashed nationalism and religious fundamentalism. It seems like a kind of genetic naiivity to me, where you cannot process something unless you believe it wholeheartedly. Also, in communicating with others, I have a terrible habit of being the first one to tell fools to shut up. I wish I could tolerate them better, I don't know how most people do it.
I hope that's not me, 'cause I remember you or one of the Autistic Bros. mentioning something like that to me after I replied sarcastically to some dipshit metaphor you used for something stupid. Didn't want to derail the joke thread, and this is actually relevant here. Credit where credit's due: that was a really interesting post; but I have trouble believing that not everyone can read this.
Having read through the entire The Truth (As I See It) thread yesterday, I'm pretty sure it was Xyle and it occurred on pages 9 - 35 inclusive.
I have difficulty reading walls of text. I also have difficulty refraining from responding when I'm quoted, so please keep that to a minimum.
In before someone remembers and quotes the other time wobbler said he was perfect and misspelled the word 'perfect'.
I said I was Prefect. Also, people don't like people that doesn't make mistakes, so being perfect means making mistakes.
In real life; While at college if memory serves. Link it or it didn't happen: I don't ever remember using that first word on this forum. What a way to give a low opinion of this forum. But I don't lack communication skills; it's just a different skill set than most on this forum.
