Why, I'm sure our dear friend Mesteut here obtained that information after painstaking research and statistics-gathering which shall surely earn him an award one day. I mean, he couldn't be pulling figures out of his ass, now could he? People on the Internet don't do that, like, at all.

In the ones I bump into, being European is something special :S

Perhaps I look at the wrong places then =\

Note: I regularly check newssites. Almost all comments are American. Same goes for political forums, and MMO forums. I usually don't bother checking other random forums.

These news sites don't happen to be for American newspapers and TV stations do they? Because then it kinda makes sense that all the comments are American. And again if you are on sites that concentrate of American politics Americans would be the most involved. And since many MMOs are based on geographic servers and localised forums then again all the Americans will be in the one place.

So 70% of people on American websites are American is what you are saying.

I live in the states. I don't want to talk about college any more than I have to. Besides, where did you get the impression that Americans were helpful?

That really depends. Even in general humour sites like the Onion (which might be centered in the U.S., but is international in coverage) Americans get the majority. Also in general news websites, in Euro related news, Europeans might have some voice, but Americans seem to follow more news about Russia, China, Mid. East etc.

The International Gaming Sites are mostly American too, which was my real reasoning I said %70 American. I based that on a poll in SW:TOR forums, which is the only site about the upcoming game as of now and is international. SWG was international as well (except Japanese servers), and the Europeans were a minority there too.

I had the impression that actually saying something useful would be a nice change. I guess I give up now though.

The main problem is your assumption that we would like to be helpful. You're an interloper in our fucking forum, you walked in and started an argument about katanas and then asked a room full of angry foreigners about college in another country. What's wrong with you? Are you just socially retarded?

And to answer your question, TDC, I've magically ascended the plateau of life where I no longer feel the need to suffer idiots. It's like a rebirth!

Just that internet forums are usually like Roman forums - you voice your opinion without the need to introduce yourself. And to be honest, I didn't start the discussion on katanas, it was *there*.

And why would people be mean for no reason? I consider myself an arrogant asshole at times and even then when advice/help is asked, even from a stranger, I do my best. I fail to see what social code I've breached.

From this sentence alone, I deduce that you are fairly young and, moreover, lacking in life experience.

Meanness is the natural condition of the human species. Why do you think all major world religions are urging people to abide by the Golden Rule? If you think that such behaviour is innate in us (apart from close friends and family members at least), then you're wrong.

Yet aren't we supposed to be civilized people? Not religion, but civilization itself dictates that one should be "civil" to the others (Hence the reason Atheists can be nicer people than Theists). I know that being mean without proper reason is a large part of school life, but I hoped grown up people would be above such things.

Note: I do understand Internet anonymity can cause immaturity in actions though.

You are right in essence, but you forget about the tribalism that is innate in the human creature. You will be heartstruck if your grandmother dies, but if 200,000 strangers die in an earthquake, do you actually give a damn?

The same applies to Internet anonymity.

I once knew a girl who would. Yet that girl was the most civilized person I've ever met (like, a true believer in complete democracy), and I'm not really touched though, so I get your point.

So what I should do from now on is to never post an actually meaningful and beneficial post in the forums (unless it is beneficial in fun material that is) - because nobody will care. People come here to talk about nothing like Seinfeld (<<Awesome show, it was).

That would, sadly as it may be, the best advice I could give you, at least until you have developed a firm enough personality on this forum (which then again applies to the tribalism argument I posed before).

This is, I believe, the way it works on any forum, and really, any human congregation. You do not get private or even personal until you have gained the corresponding degree of recognition amongst your peers.

As for your initial question, I do not know jack about American colleges. My own university, UmeƄ University, is usually fairly mediocre in international comparisons, and it is in fucking Sweden, so I suppose you do not want to go there.

What you should do is fuck off. Really.

And where did you get the idea that human were a civilized race? Just look at history. War, war and war.

It's through war we evolve enough to live better in peace. And there have always been war.

Conflict in general, I'd say. We have a saying in Swedish which approximately translates to "need is the mother of invention". Struggle is the engine through which we as a species progress.

War, war and war indeed, mainly over trivial matters. I'm not fond of calling it progress, but humanity seems to learn the hard way. Civility is an aside factor as, regardless, numbers are everything in civilisation. Quantity over quality, now and forever. No culture gets anywhere unless properly led.

I suppose some people here are more passive than others, but they're all more or less bitter bastards in one respect or another. Basically, we're all biased in some way, so developing into a trolling argument was something of a misstep.

I believe that was the very point of the joke. You know, funny. Haha. That sort of thing.

Plus, there are no girls on the Internet.
I love the "percent seventy percent". That would be 0.7%, I believe. I'm pretty sure there are more Americans on the Interwebs.

We have the very same saying in Polish. I wonder who's stealin'.

    I'm not biased.
    What a dump question.

"Oh no, my wallet is gone. Who could have stole it, the noble Vikings or one of those Polish bastards?"

Also, my complete set of Polish words I've learned while playing Soldat: Siema.

The real problem with your question is that it is so general even people such as myself that are in a position to help you aren't really inclined to. "Help me with selecting a college?" Really?

If you don't have the self-motivation, intelligence, and sheer balls to go out and find the answers to these questions yourself then you don't belong in an institution of higher learning in the first place.

I call Shaman! You know, I've this strange sensation that, if civilization fails, this forum is the group I'd actually want as fellow tribesmen. Provided we could sort out all our bickering in short order, I think we could conquer what was left of the world.

Now that wouldn't work, have you got any estimation of the other forum members? Great in some sort of social sense but I don't think the chance of power would end well.
