    Well, my thoughts were:
    • Why is Milo posting so infrequently?
    • Why is goodiesettlers++ connected to playing Americans?
    • I'd best nip over and see if they reposted the patch.

*nips over to Civ3.com* (yes! got it!)

    *notices Ioo's reply on return*

    My thoughts now include:
    • Will the patch ruin save games? (like FO)
    • Ioo is a FREAK (not the first time I've had this thought)

    1. Why are we listing things all of a sudden again?
    2. GoodieSettlers++ is connected to the Americans because (1) they are Industrious, a trait that I prefer, and (2) they are Expansionist which, IIRC has an even greater chance of popping settlers and other good stuff from huts.
    3. The newest patch is available over at Firaxis.com. This is the one with the correct version of the editor. The one over at Civ3.com may or may not have the correct version of CivEdit associated with it. If not, you'll have to download the correct version - that's another 2 or 3 megs. Something to consider if you're on a slow connection.

Yep, 1000 posts. Maybe now Jinxed will give me that custom avatar he promised me so long ago. I did up a nice one in ImageReady. Now all I have to do is get on IRC and nag him into doing it.

    • I never stopped listing. If you lost the list lust since last you listed, I lament you.
    • I geddit. Those settlers can surely boost your early game.
    • I got the one from Civ3.com. File size looks about right. Still wondering about whether it nukes game saves, so I think I'll finish my current game before applying patch.

Lemme ask you comp whizzes something. Alas I am a retard and know little about what goes on behind the screen that I'm now staring at and pushing keys which makes little characters appear on the aforementioned screen. My dad says its magic. So ANYway.......

I don't have the internet at my home. I do all my posting here at work. If I wanted to download the patch, couldn't I download it to a 3.5 floppy and then on to my computer? Or is that kinda iffy.... Your advice?

Oh, and to get back on subject, I'm getting rather discouraged about leaders. How is one to get them during peacetime? You can't. Killing barbarians don't give you leaders. It has to be a civ. Do you guys find it hard to get leaders?

I'd say download the patch at work and then burn it to a CD. Then bring the CD home with you.

If you can't burn CDs at work, then I guess you'll have to use floppies (remember those?). I'm assuming you don't have or can't use a Zip drive or some other kind of movable media.

To get the patch from work to home with floppies, you'll probably have to grab a compression utility like WinRAR or (my pick) WinACE. Then break down the patch file into segments of the appropriate size, put them on floppies and then unarchive them when you get home.

It's not that hard to get leaders, you just have to make sure your elite units fight alot of battles that they are sure to win. Playing a militaristic civ helps out the odds also.

But basically what you want to do is get your units up to elite level by "training" them against barbarians. Then take these units and pit them in easy battles against one of the AI civs. Let your veteran and lower units rush city defenses. They'll likely die, but their loss isn't as bad as losing a potential leader.

Oh yeah, when trying for a Great Leader, a unit that's capable of retreat is also a good idea, since they're less likely to die if by chance you start losing a fight.

    Yes.

Oh, don't worry  Using my new no golden age scenario, I'm going to use the Zulu (Militaristic and Expansionist) to kick some ass!

As for my score, I ended up with 3293 by winning the Space Race in 1882 . Edged out the Iroquois for victory by 101 points...Ended up with the name Caeser the Magnificent. Tip to everyone else: If you control the most of the world's aluminum, you are almost guaranteed a win.

Retard, as for the leaders thing - get your elite units into battle against easy units, and hope for a leader. When you get one, use it to build an army, load it up with at least two of your best elite offensive units (then you can either go for a defensive unit, or a third elite one), and go looking for an easy win. Once you've won, build the Heroic Epic and Military Academy. Heroic Epic increases your chances of generating leaders in combat, and the Military Academy lets you build armies, so make sure you build it in a city with the most shields. Use any more leaders to rush wonders, or create armies in emergencies. Whenever possible though, use the armies you build to load up your units and go a-conquerin'.

Good score, Jar! My best so far is still in the low 2000's. I know it's lame, but I haven't been playing on Regent until this time around and the score multiplier is low.

I'm still going for domination in my Japanese start. I only got to play for about 45 minutes last night, so barely had time to progress my campaign at all. Those cites I took from the Babs are under heavy bowman/knight attack. I'm hoping to force enough Samurai into the situation to allow me to push onto the next city.

The Golden Age strategy should be interesting. There are plenty of early military wonders to use as triggers, but it'll be interesting to see if you can time their construction. In my current game, due to "wonder shuffling" resulting from being beaten to the post on a few, I ended up finishing Leo's pad and J.S Bachs within a coupla turns of each other. Since Japanese are M/R, this means I may have missed out on a Golden Age due to already being in on.

[EDIT]What kind of Palace did you get, Jar? Is it only me who cares whether my people "love" me enough to build me a home? When I finish my current game, I'm going to post a print scrn of the half-built hovel they think I deserve.

I noticed they build me a bit of Palac when I take the overall lead. Does this mean I get a better Palace by winning a close run game than I would by being WAAYYYYY in the lead all the way through?[/EDIT]

Retard, Don't ask me about leaders. I'm prodding buttock with elite Samurai, winning fight after fight, and haven't had a single one with my Militaristic nation. The sad truth is that there is an element of luck involved.

I remember one game where I played the Persians and was using Immortals to counter Shaftas usual aggression, and got three leaders real close to each other. Those Immortals are damn good.

Ioo, you best stop trying to derail my thread. Or else I'll cut off the child support I'm paying your mum. Whatcha gonna eat then?

Yep, you guessed it friends and neighbors. I have another question. How many units can you put in an army? I searched the manual, it didn't tell me. So I burned the fucker. I thought that I got the gist that you could only put three in an army.. Is that right? And if so, does the number change?

Yep, it's three units in an army until you can build the pentagon. Then it's increased to four units.

I always use kcwong as my handle in all forums and sites... hoping that I can find more people in Hongkong/China/Singapore playing the same game, and play multiplayer games without much lag.

I post very little on CivFanatics (and that's the only Civ fan site I go to).

Oh and Ioo, it's quite boring staring at all those smiley faces... how about you make a picture full of cans, and we find out the can of spam from within? :p

    Two more questions.

    1. When you go to trade resources or luxuries, and you have 2 or more extra of that resource, you have to trade BOTH of them. Is that right or is there another way to only trade ONE of your extra resources? To further explain, if this doesn't make sense, I am negotiating a trade with Queen Elizabeth. I have 3 extra spices. I want furs, I trade her spices. She gets ALL 3 of my spices. Can you just trade one so you can trade the other spices to other civs?

    2. I have the intelligence agency. I have a spy in the aztecs (those war-mongering bastards) capital. I KNOW that someone has a spy in my capital, because every turn almost, somebody in San Francisco dies of disease. They are in an irrigated place, but I have the hospital, medicine.....ANYWAY, I'm getting off track. How do I EXPOSE SPY? I didn't see that option. Do I click on MY embassy button, or the rival civs embassy button whom I suspect have a spy?

That number shows how many you have (beside the one your civ uses). Just try and see. Trade someone your spice(3), and after that, you still have spice(2) to trade with other civs. You can actually trade iron(0) - but that means your civ will not have any iron to use after the trade is established.

Jungle and Flood Plains cause disease. If you think there's a spy, use the expose spy function.

Hospital does not reduce chance of disease from jungle and flood plains. The tech itself does.

The city with the intelligence agency will have an icon to the right of its name. Double-click on it. Or press something-E. It's either shift-E or Ctrl-E.

BTW, you can go to http://www.civfanatics.com. It's the biggest and finest Civ site. See you there, okay? ( Will you use "Retard" as your name on that site too? :p )
