Yeah, government types seem to have taken a back seat in this one. It's like, get yourself a democracy, then sit on it.

Who'd choose Communism with the set up they've given it.

Can anyone explain why my citizens seem HAPPIER during a war? I thought democracies were supposed to suffer from war-weariness or something, but it seems just the opposite.

Am I missing something? Did I invent the Sun newspaper or something, and turn all my citizens into war loving maniacs?

they put me in a cupboard during the day.

the diplamcy sometime bothers me in the game but still for the first 2 weeks i was getting about 4 hours asleep a night.
also people the pyrimids should be the first wonder you get. it save so much time on building a new city and when you conquer a new one a grannery is there and waiting but thats just what i think.
is it harder than civ2 or am i just wrong here.

Well, Communism was the best government in Civ 1. Fundamentalism was best in Civ 2. Democracy sucked in both of them .

Now democracy is good? How do you figure that?

Amen to that pyramid comment, but maybe we should mark such snippets with a *spoiler* since Milo needs to be forced to learn such things the hard way.

Why should he have it easy?

Yeah, that's right, let's make him beg us for advice when his empire crumbles around his ears. Maybe we can trade hints to him for arse-typing tips

Yeah, Pyramids are good and handy, but aren't they eventually made obsolete? I just think that the Great Library does so many more things for you.

I woudl agree, I think monarchy is one of the best government types you can get. I kept getting a ton of civil disruptions when i switched to almsot anything else. So i jsut stuck with Monarchy for the most part.

Bloody commies, when will you learn the futility of pursuing your delusions?

Some non-shit aspects of democracy you seem not to have mentioned:
    • Increased commerce (money for bribes, money for science, money for happiness)
    • Increased productivity (who can argue with your little wage slaves being 150% efficient?)
    • Minimal corruption (making it the government of choice for large empires)
    • The draft (not as good as the commie slave army, but not too shabby)
    • Hurry = Pay citizens. This is a biggie. I don't wanna have to kill half my population when I need a factory in a hurry.

I feel sorry for you poor deluded souls. You must have been listening to too much propoganda. If you were in a democracy, you'd be immune to it.

It did piss me off in Civ 2 when the AI governments would thwart my evil plans by having democratic governments, preventing me from corrupting their cities...

   ).

Well, I just got this game a couple days ago. As a complete newbie to these kinds of games, let me just say...

THIS GAME KNOCKS ME DOWN AND RUTHLESSLY KICKS ME IN THE ASS, EVEN ON THE TUTORIAL LEVEL.

I need to spend some more quality time with the manual I think, because things just aren't "clicking" yet. I don't understand what's going on half the time.

The trick is to act like you're the equal of everyone else - don't just go for world domination immediatly, you'll get your ass whooped. Go for a technological advantage immediatly, and get better units.

    On to the game!

I liked it, but there are key problems with it. Number one: You can't customize your civilization's traits.
Number two; If you wanna play the French you HAVE to have a female character image. Same with Russia and England. And most of the others force you to be a male image. This coupled with the inability to customize my civ's traits lead to a lot of annoyance when being called "Mrs." Arrrrrrrg.
The third and most important complaint is the unit power comparison. When I invaded China with my tank army :))) and all they had were swordsmen, they still managed to take out a few. HOW?!? I don't think that's even possible...
Also, I'd like it if my entire army was fighting at any given time. What's the point of having archers if they can't shoot over your infantry's heads?
Also, the barter system is screwy. I WANT TO BRING AN EMPIRE TO ITS KNEES AND FORCE IT TO PROVIDE ME WITH RESOURCES CHEAPLY! None of this "ends in 20 turns" crap.
One final complaint: whose *brilliant* idea was it to end the tech tree at our current level of technology? Annoying to me. Yes.

    Love,
    Etalis
