China nappy business tries to trademark Bush

A Beijing businessman has applied to use the Chinese name of US President George Bush to market his nappies.
"Back in my hometown in Henan Province, the pronunciation of 'Bushi' sounds exactly like 'not wet'," said the man, surnamed Guo, according to local media.

But his application is likely to be rejected, authorities said.

"It may bring about bad social impact if a leader's name is registered as a trademark," said an official surnamed Liu at the State Trademark Bureau.

George Bush is not the only high-profile American who has appealed to Chinese businesses.

Mr Liu said the bureau had just turned down an application by a costume company to use the Chinese translation of "Lewinsky" as a fashion brand.

China's state Xinhua news agency said there was increasing interest in the use of a well-known person's name as a trademark.

It cited a pharmaceutical factory in south China's Guizhou Province which in 2001 succeeded in using Xie Tingfeng, the Mandarin name of Hong Kong pop star Nicholas Tse, to sell its anti-diarrhoea drug.

It added that officials have yet to rule on a request from a Beijing company called Nan Bei Tong to use the name of Mu Zimei, a 25-year-old sex columnist, on its condoms.

"Merchants are mainly driven by business interests, hoping a popular trade name will lead to a best-selling product," the agency quoted officials as saying.

Personally, if I was a celeb, and someone trademarked my name I'd be really pissed. Therefore, note to self: When I become famous, trademark my name in all known languages.

I'm very sick of everyone jumping onto the "I hate Bush" bandwagon. If you hate, hate him, I don't give a damn, but don't be such a bitch about it. Has the whole leftist world gone junior high? Hollywood celebrities recently held a "Hate Bush" extravaganza. Give me a fucking break! Don't they have better things to do? You never saw any Republicans holding celebrations in honor of our unilateral hatred for Clinton. Actually, not that many people hated him. It was more like disdain. But then again, who didn't feel disdain for that fool?

Isn't it better to let everyone know that you hate something, and why, instead of just being quiet?

That's part of my point: If you hate Bush, say, "I hate Bush because he picked on poor little Saddam Hussien," or "I hate him because he isn't a socialist." But people just rant about how "Bush is an idiot," "I hate Bush," "Bush is the worst President ever," etc, etc.

I belive Icarius' post were meant as a joke (atleast thats how I read it) with some connection to the real world.

It would kinda loose it's point if it said something like "I don't see how that would be different cause everyone knows he's an idiot picking on Saddam Hussein and not being socialist."

Atleast it would move away from Solaris' post about babies pissing in Bush.

I wasn't attacking Icairus in particular, or even talking about what he said. His statement just reminded me of that irritating phenomenon in current American society.

There are Jack Black skincare products

(ie. Jack Black from Tenacious D and School of Rock)

In an interview he claimed that they had a product called Jack Black armpit cream.

I wasn't aiming for my post to become an anti-Bushist rally. It was merely an amusing piece of news. "Clinton" nappies would be just as funny. "Sharon" diet would be plain hilarious :p

I know your post wasn't meant to be against Bush, but it was kinda begging to get that comment.

I hate Bush because when I attended public school in Texas during his period as governor (when i was 11-13) there were 500 people in each of the three classes at my school, and the entire campus was one building and a couple soccer fields. We had to eat lunch in shifts, we had to go from class to class in shifts, we weren't allowed to carry back packs because the halls would be too crowded. Also, even though I was already an easy target for ridicule because I was such a social spaz (partially a result of me moving to England during the 4th grade and moving back in the sixth grade (elementry school to intermediate school with no clue about the social bullshit i was in for)but anyway) the fact that everything was so crowded meant I was also an easy target for physical abuse in gym class, and between classes etc. I was big for my age though, and no way was I getting my ass kicked, and therefore I won fights, but guess what, even if you are attacked in these schools there is still a bullshit "zero tolerance" rule, so because I was subject to frequent attack, I spent more time in "in school suspension" than my attackers. One time I was choked by a kid that was older than me and didn't do anything about it because I'd have been kicked out of school if they caught me fighting one moe time. I thought everything in texas was supposed to be big? I guess it made me a more worldly person though, I mean, I lived in texas and went to a Chinese style school. At least in terms of square feet to people.

Also, the Texas school system, in an effort to make itself look better than other school systems, doesn't take the normal universal assessment tests at the end of the year they take the "TAAS" test, which is some acronym I cant remember, but basically its a much easier version of the tests they take in every other state but California.

Also one of Bush's last little changes before he left Texas to become our supereme comandant, was to eliminate the "head start" program from Texas public schools. This program was designed to get student volunteers from various high schools to work with underprivelaged children from around the kindergarten-4th grade area. It was a good program, I participated in it in High school when I lived in California, and I don't know why Bush would cancel its funding in Texas. I'd assume it has something to do with the kids being from the "lower class" regions of the social/economic ladder. Which could lead me to another fun topic...

But I dont feel like discussing how a lot of these people from the lower economic regions of society will hurl votes at Bush against their own economic interests. (when I say economic I don't mean higher taxes, I mean HMO's and funding being cut from after school programs and government funding being made available for private schools).

Anyway, I think its time for me to stop ranting.

why do you think only leftists hate Bush? there are Republicans who realize they elected a moron. want a reason why i hate him? cuz he's stupid. and why is he stupid? cuz he can't read his cue-cards, he only became a born-again christian so the press would get off his back for his coke-habit. in addition, for all his love of military, he once went AWOL while in the service. he also started a war for false reasons. doesn't matter that i think the war needed to be fought, he should've told the truth and said "we're going to Iraq cuz that's what my Daddy did."

are those enough reasons for you?
