ok here it is folks... i have a few ideas on some charactr types id like to try out... but i need some help with what stats i should choose and such... (beyond the obvious) ok first off... a sniper... would this even work? i thought alot of skill in firearms and proling... with lots of perception and intelligence... i think some fireamrs and mechanics and explosives would it be any good (even posible) to make a guy that was maxed out in several areas of technology so i can make som more advanced schematics?
:minigun: Formerly of Fredrik, Maryland. What's up bro! The best way to establish a character your truly happy with is to experiment. Any advice you get from us is just that, advice. Playing through with different characters will allow you to determine exactly what it is you like and don't like. At any rate I will try to help you with your assassin. Dexterity, Perception, and Firearms are key. Mechanical, Electical, and Smithy tech disciplines are very helpful as they allow you to create items that can aid your character immensely. For example a charged ring can give +2 dexterity for each ring. And the helmet of vision can be created giving you a +3 to perception, given you put the skill into aforementioned tech skills. Ensure your backround is the one concerning being raised by monks for it gives you a +1 perception. You can steal a firearm of extreme power very early in the game from a hermit in Ashburry, the looking glass rifle. I personally never found prowling to be a very employable skill, but hey the dexterity will be there if you want to give it a go. I'm sure you'll spend many enjoyable hours figuring Arcanum out. Welcome to Terra!
I chose a similar path as the smiper, but with a bow instead of a rifle. If play a halfling thief with 20 DEX, Bow Master, Prowl Expert with 4 skill (I have not gottent to PE18 for the MASTER ... yet). I have a fast bow, speed 28, so by the time any enemy is close to me to be able to hit me, he already has at least 10 arrows in his head. I also chose to master dodge, so that if they fire at me I can evade. This is my personal preference, and I think it has worked.
If your going for prowling anyway, choose raised by orcs - +2 str and per, -6 cha. You dont need charisma as followers will get in the way. A prowl, backstab, melee, dodge dwarf with magnus's gloves works really well. At the start screen put 2 points in electric, then look in the industrial salvage (near the crashed blimp), you'll find all the parts for a charged ring.
