any advice on how to construct chars? (i.e. what is really important for magic user stats? for technologist?) basically i need to know how to create a char that will be a decent magic user and still relatively balanced (without cheating). How important is constitution to the Mage? Willpower? Intelligence? right now i have an idea for a char that is: Balthas VonShrek: Mage Background: Sold his Soul Magic schools: 1 - black necro 2 - summon 3 - fire as opposed to my actual char idea: William: Mage Background: child of a hero Magic schools: 1 - force 2 - white necro 3 -- (either meta or temporal) or a theoretic char: Grant: Human Background: none, concept: barbarian tech Tech proficiencies: Smithee, Melee Weapons Thanks. In my opinion, to create a rather balanced character you shouldn't choose any background. Important for a mage is willpower (to get more stamina and higher spell levels) but constitution also helps (stamina+, better healing rate, hit points+). Intelligence is important for techies but it's useful to get more dialogue options. X
well, as far as backgrounds go, find one that detracts from something you wont be needing. If you've decided to by evil anyway, sold your soul isnt a bad choice. I kinda like bookworm, since it doesnt do anything too drastic, and as a well rounded mage, perception is really the one stat i never plan on putting any points into, and extra intelligence is always nice. Willpower is the all-important stat for mages, but dont forget you need int to sustain more spells at a time (3 ogres are always better than 2). Constitution i never really put that many points into, not because its not useful, but because it seems like there are better things to put the points into. Also consider that with a 12 charisma and 3 levels of persuation you'll be able to get 4 followers (if you like large parties, i know i do....not that i need it, i just like leading a big party into battle. also that way you dont have to worry about your own melee skills) and you'll be able to get all sorts of new options in diologs. Just one last thing and i'll stop my rant. Either go all the way to 100% with tech or magik, or stay down around 10%. Going somewhere in the middle will only give you slightly more powerful abilities, while still limiting your use of items from the other side.
