Have you guys seen Caligula? If not, I suggest you do (especially you, Muro). Don't look up anything about it first, though.

What a movie. Not really conventionally good, but it's so disturbing it sticks with you for days.

I spoke about my impressions of it when I made a films thread (which does contain spoilers so don't click on it if you want the surprise). I recommend the uncut version by a mile; it just has so much extra, erm... goodness than the regular version.

On a related note, I heard they're remaking it in 3D. May just be a rumour though.

Well, I'm intrigued. The personal distinction had its part in this, I'll admit.

Haven't read anything in the thread besides Grakelin's post and didn't look the movie up. Planning to watch it sometime during the weekend.

If I remember rightly the uncut version is around 3 hours long, so be prepared to put a whole evening aside!

Only 156 minutes for the Imperial Version, which is the longest available, I think.

Too bad he's not at 2K posts yet.

EDIT; Totally changed my mind about using it, as well as the post count I mentioned.

I just checked my DVD and you are correct. Maybe it just felt longer because of how special it was. Funny story actually, but containing spoilers about what is so shocking about the film so I'll stick in spoiler tags:

I bought this film because it was described as "shocking", "controversial" and "horrifying". It just so happened that my fiancée's younger brother - only 16 at the time - was coming the weekend I bought it so we decided to watch it with him; not really knowing what it was about.

To cut a long story, we watched a glorified 2 and a half hour long porn film with him. It was a bit awkward.

I don't think it's a glorified porn film. I think it's a pornified avant garde. The porn was all spliced in during post-production. Even Malcom McDowell was displeased, apparently.

I watched some of the commentary, as I was keen to see what McDowell had to say about some of the more unique scenes (sadly the commentary is only on the cut version so I was denied that pleasure). What he did say however was that Brass had promised the girls who did sex scenes that if they did them it would make the famous, and they believed him! I believe that's naivety at its finest.

Too bad most of them were cut out of the film to make way for Guccione's Penthouse Pets!
