I could swear that I read Brother Joachim's note in Shrouded hills before I ditched it, but in Tarant, the telegraph operator has nothing for me. Since I'm playing it for the second time, maybe I just forgot to read it?

Anyway, this seems to set off a whole bunch of pain in the arse problems with this quest. Am I screwed, or is there a way around this? Thanks in advance.

I've never had a problem with it, myself. The condition for asking about the telegram is reading the note that was left in the inn room. Note that you actually have to read it, you can't just pick it up.

Right, but what I believe I did, in my haste to get out of Shrouded Hills, is pick up the note and fail to read it. It is now gone. Yeah, I screwed up, wondering if it is a fatal screw up.

What did you do with the note? It doesn't decay or anything, if you put it in the garbage in Shrouded Hills its still there.

One of the reasons it's still a good idea to find a container and dump your used quest items in, though. At least you didn't lose the Bangellian Scourge on your first play through like I did - I didn't know that it was anything special, just a sword I found in a cave. How wrong I was...

At least he didn't put the note in the Bangellian Furnace.

If only I put the Scourge in there, but I didn't. I kept it, and put it in storage somewhere. At least, I swore I did, but then when I looked through Plough's warehouse (my dumping grounds) I figured I left it somewhere else. Or, I sold it, so I tried to find any shopkeeper who might have bought it.

If only it was in the furnace, I wouldn't have spent days looking for the damn thing instead of playing the game! Well, that was a long time ago anyway, when the game wasn't completely patched, and even if I had the thing, I might not be able to continue with the story...

That's why it's smart to pick one or two containers and shove everything you don't want into them. I usually pick one on the N and S sides of the continent. Then if I need something later I know it's in one of those two containers. I usually use a dresser or chest in the room I rented at a hotel in any given town.

It's nice to have a lot of containers close together, though, so you don't have to sort through 100 or so items. That's why I like Plough's so much.

Found the damned note in some cave where I had dumped a bunch of useless stuff. Lessons learned:

    1. Actually READ notes, etc. that I receive
    2. Create 2 or more dump points on the map to put questionable stuff.

    Thanks for the replies.

    Here's one more:
Be careful where you....deploy....your arachnids when you make them. The first time I created one, I was so excited I went to activate it and accidently tossed it across the screen and into the cranium of a guard passing by. He then promptly walked over to me, handed my ass to me in on a silver platter and quietly reminded me that I hadn't saved my game within the past 90 minutes of play. Lesson learned, lesson learned.

The wolf cave is home to many thing's I've lost. Probably because killing a mother wolf and her cubs weirds me out and I never go back...
