I don't know what you mean by "steampunk"... Arcanum wasn't a book, but there are quite a few fantasy books, Lord of the Rings, for example, and the Hobbit (bascially the same thing). Dont know of any others, though.
1. Steampunk is fantasy set in a pseudo Victorian era. Which is what Arcanum is. 2. I know Arcanum is a game. 3. I've read all those books you've cited. 4. I was wondering if anyone knew any books set in a similar setting to Arcanum.
Check out Crossroads to Twilight. And, if that doesn't tickle your fancy, try the "People who bought this books also bought" links. On a side note, this is my 1800th post, but when does the rank finally change? :???:
Pseudo Victorian? Hmm... I'm not sure about that... I have to think about that. The Amber Series is/are very good, but they're more midieval.
The Wheel of Time series, (of which The Crossroads of Twilight is a part) is excellent, but only has a little reference to technology. There is some, but it's not nearly as deep as Arcanum, and isn't psudo-Victorian at all. But, if you have years of free time, i would recommend starting the uncompleted 10-book-so-far series. It's cool. Or, you can play Fallout again like i am, cuz its awesome! Or read Alternate History, cuz its cooler than fantasy anyway!
The only book I can think of that matches your description of the genre is "The Difference Engine" by William Gibson and Bruce Sterling, but I don't think it relates to Arcanum in any way.
The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass are set in somewhat psuedo-Victorian worlds. Errr... I don't think that's quite what you're looking for though.
Few other steampunk books, can't remember much of them thou, it has been a long time since read them. Difference Engine, The by Bruce Sterling, William Gibson Anno Dracula by Kim Newman Dinotopia by James Gurney Land Apart from Time, A by James Gurney Lord Kelvin's Machine by James P. Blaylock Pasquale's Angel by Paul J. McAuley Steampunk Trilogy, The by Paul DiFilippo World Beneath, The by James Gurney Perdido Street Station by China Mieville
I know the movie sucked, but wasn't the time machine something like that? or did they not have magic... i dunno. can't really remember.
I have not heard of any victorian style books containg booth magic and steamengines like in arcanum, but you could try jules verne. that bloody submarine.(cannot remember the name) Speaking of books, i just started to read Papilion the other day, a great book, not among the best but still pretty good.
