Thats like comparing apples to oranges. But that mentality is quite prevalent, which may be why we've already lost more than 20% of the rain forests, and we as a species will do nothing about it until its to late. These forests used to cover 14% of the land mass, but now only cover 6%, and some predictions are stating that they'll be gone within 40 years.

Also, they help control greenhouse gases which if they get out of hand, like they're doing now, they'll increase air temperature. This causes violent weather like tornado's and hurricanes since air pressure is largely influenced by heat. This would explain all the record breaking weather we're seeing now. Rising heat will continue to melt the ice caps, thats been increasing for the last twenty years, flooding the seas with warm freshwater. This will kill those neat looking corals, but could also jeopardize the Gulf Stream, which keeps us all nice and warm.

Lets just invent a term called "El Nino/La Neno" and the masses will continue to stay calm, good little cattle. If they get wise to that, we'll change the name to ... Nano Nano ... and keep em dumbified for another ten years.

By the way, I've got this bridge in Brooklin for sale, dirt cheap this month only! Any takers?

Alright, you know what? China burns one hell of a lot of coal. So much so, in fact, that it's equivalent to every person in America owning about three cars and driving them all day throughout the year (the amount of pollution, I mean). In short, even if we try to slow this process down, it's still going to happen. It is supposed to happen. Ice ages wax and wane thoughout history, and though certain species die, new ones will arrise, as is the way of things. I've stopped worrying, but I still do my part to slow this whole process a bit. I ride my bike to work every day.
And no, I'm not saying China is responsible for this process, I'm just saying that they, as well as many other countries, certainly help to speed things up. Besides, it's not like there was never atmospheric pollution before civilizations happened. When the first plants began exuding oxygen to the atmosphere, it had a radical change on the climate, as well as the dominating species of the time (microscopic anaerobes). There are still some anaerobes in existance, though, so it kind of means stuff survives. Kindof. Yes, it's very bad that the rainforest(s) is (are) dying. However, with the rapidly warming climate, rainforests will stretch further from the equator (well, the tropical ones, anyway), and regain some lost ground. To be honest, I don't care. None of this will happen while I'm alive. Well, nothing super major, anyway (except for that one glacier that's rapidly shrinking). Hell, maybe something major will happen. But, by that time, I'll be an old man, and I'll have had my little jaunt amongst the living.
Blame whomever you want for deforestation and smog, All of what is going to happen would have happened eventually anyway. Kudos to the people responsible, for they will be the first to die.

Europe went thougth than mini-Ice Age from the 14th century to 17th century. When the Viking settle Greenland it was greener than Iceland with than warmer weather than Iceland. Only the interior and Northern part of Greenland have snow and Ice all year long. Scientist today believe it was the change in solar energry output that cause this change in weather and climate
on Earth. When Roman rule Britian it was warm enought to grow gape to make wine in England and wales. It was true in the Dark alsi by the 10th England was unable to grow grape to make wine.

Those who dont learn from their mistakes are doomed to repeat them. And repeat them. And repeat them.

Grossen, my parents and their parents before them had the same mentality, it wont effect me so I'm not worried about. Pass the buck, somebody elses problem, not my responsibility. But if not ours, them who's? Our children, their children? What if we're the last generation to be able to do something about it and we blow it off?

Doesn't matter really, we're heading there with a quickness, and I dont expect enough people to do anything to stop it. I'm more of the mentality of 'how the hell do I survive and profit from it', then lets all chain ourselves to trees and sing koom-ba-ya. I've wasted enough of my life trying to change the world and wake people up, only to find that they dont want change.

The real question is, how do you successfully survive an Ice Age?
