Most people will probably be aware of the theft of the Half-Life 2 "Source" engine from Valve which occured a few months ago. If so, then you're probably also aware that because of this theft, Valve has had to delay the release of HL2 in order to redo some of the game's code to add more security. Well, according to CNN, this has also put the release date of Bloodlines back quite significantly too.

"Half-Life 2" wasn't the only game delayed by the source-code theft. Valve had licensed out the game's "Source" graphics engine to developer Troika, which was hard at work building "Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines," a PC role-playing game. That game, initially set to be released this year, had to be delayed to implement the same security fixes needed on HL2. It now has a target release date of Spring 2005, said Trokia co-founder Jason Anderson.

However, conflicting with that report is HollywoodVamp, the Bloodlines Official PR guy who had this to say over at the Inn:

Thank you for your continued interest and support for Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines. Regarding recent inquiries about the game's ship date, rest assured that Activision is planning to release the game this fall, 2004. Stay tuned for more updates coming in the next few weeks.
As to which one is right...? Well, at this point, your guess is as good as mine. If the delay does push Bloodlines release out to 2005, one can only hope that Troika would use the extra development time to their advantage.

I wouldn't be surprised if the release dates were so mixed up that Troika thought they had more time to handle the game, but in the end had much less time, and ended up releasing yet another buggy product.

One can only hope the result of Activision keeping pressure on the earlier relase date will not be another lengthy ToEE-like bug list.
