Only one thing, Solaris: if we want to go for "fantasy realism," dwarves really shouldn't be able to use bows. Well, maybe, but nothing bigger than a shortbow. Have you ever fired a recurve or other medium sized bow? The first time I ever did, I was about dwarf-height, and it was all I could do not to scrape it on the ground when I was firing. That's not even to mention the longbow, which isn't really a portable weapon for humans, let alone dwarves.

Now, I think the crossbow would be an ideal weapon for a no-gun dwarf. Lotsa kickback, but that's what dwarves were made for. Perhaps a pyro-crossbow? Heavy crossbows do more damage than most 19th century guns, though they do have less armor piercing power because of the mass distribution.

Agreed :) Though there WERE dwarf archers in Tolkien's books, and he never mentions crossbows. Not that I remember, anyway. But it does make sense. After all, my favourite blade launcher is nothing but a modified version of a crossbow.

That's just grand! Damn, it would be absolutely übercool if you could walk around with a sword and a gun... though it would look like a shield (hope you'll find a way to avoid that)

Perhaps you'll have to include a new weapon - Shield Guns!

Maybe you could make use of the flow disruptor inventory graphics for those? :p

Keep us updated with news on this... and make sure Chris and DU sees it too. When you can, throw up some screens showing that it's actually working, and I'll come and hug you.

And, Solaris, what's so wrong with techie elves? My elven fighter is an expert in firearms, proudly walking around with a machined plate and a handcannon :D , keeping his aptitude at a neutral level (I'm opting for mastery - I'm soon doing the ultimate blessing quest)

The inventory graphics part is actually easy, like it says in the link. It looks like having a sword and gun equipped. I got nowhere to post screenshots, but I can take a few tonight when I'm at home.

However, I have no idea how to make the player avatar not look like he's carrying a shield. I'd be happy if it just looked like he was carrying nothing, since it's not practical to make the avatar look like it's carrying a gun on the shield side.

    I don't think it's practical, anyways.

Maybe I was incoherent. What I meant was that if you couldn't find a way to make the off-hand pistol not look like a shield, you could make some spaced out shield-gun that used the Flow Disruptor inventory graphic. Maybe a bad idea, but my entire life so far has been a long run of bad ideas, so I guess that figures...

Try sending a PM to Jinxed - he's the guy who runs this place. I bet he'd be happy to rack'em up. :)

That's why I adviced you to speak with DarkUnderlord and chrisbeddoes - those fellows are, like you, Arcanum modders supreme and I'm sure they'd be more than happy to help you out on this.

If you can't sort it out... well, look back on my shield-gun idea then :p

    Oh, and good luck!
