Avatar Question (no, NOT asking for one!)

I have a question about the avatars. I understand how they are given - I've read the Consolidated GD FAQ thread a few times. What I am unclear about is whether this refers to just the image, or to the title underneath as well. Are they always earned at the same time? I mean, for positive avatars, not those brought down by the wrath of the moderators.

 

Custom title and custmo avatar is given at the same time, and they are given when to community feels like fixing it, and after you have achieved 1000 posts.

 

Unless I piss someone off, right? Now hypothetically - and this is really hypothetical - could I piss off an admin to get an insulting title with no permanent bad feelings or drop in rep? Well, that's a slippery slope anyway, haha.

They way I understood, custom avs are more like a badge of honor around here, not necessarily an award of longevity. From the Gen FAQ I read a while back, most of those with custom avs were pretty devoted members to the community, not just casual posters, but patchers, bug fixers, admins, modders, etc. I'll most likely hit 1000 posts some day but won't be expecting an av because of it. I'm happy just popping in from time to time and joining whatever topic tickles my fancy.

I'm not really sure who those people are - since I was looking at the board for only a few months before I joined - but I am surprised from some of the descriptions that some of the people got them. Sounds like they were some of the most dedicated people, even if they caused some trouble once in a while. The board seems to run really well right now, but I'm kind of curious about what it was like back at the beginning.

 

I haven't got one yet because

a) I've asked for it more than once and

b) I haven't really contributed to the forum (or something)

And technically, I think requesting one sets you back like 6 months in your capacity to acquire one. Be more interesting, and mayhaps you'll earn one.

I also like the way things are now, despite not being around back in the day. I'm worried if there every really is an Arcanum sequal, that these boards would soon fall the way of the Fallout 3 forums over at Bethesda. At least here, if you're labeled a jackoff, it's been a well established confirmation for some period of time without blurting out "But it's Oblivion with gunz for gawd's sakes!!1"

 

I currently've little intention of buying F3. I might for the lunchbox, but that's about it. Then again, I also happen to suffer from 3D sickness, meaning that I can't play 1st person games. Also, it's nice to know that someone has finally managed to end up behind me and Helbokos. ^_^ It's lonely here at the end...
