We have to put than 14 or 15 year old dog to sleep at the animal pound run by the Humane Society of El Paso. All loose dogs and cats are sent there it owner doesnot claim animal after than certain amount of time the animal is kept there untril an new owner want it unless the dog or cat is too old and is in alot of pain or very ill then the vets who share the duty give the animal than shot of poison to quickly kill it no CO2 gas use in this pound.

Vets don't inject poison into a cat or dog to kill it, they inject a strong sedative into their vein. They just give them an overdose so that they go to sleep and never wake up. That's why it's referred to as "putting an animal to sleep" when you have a vet do it.
