According to the bible that is pretty much how it happened.

 

The bible says a lot of things.....
Personally I think the screwed themselve when they added that Noahs ark story. People are just grasping at straws when they try to explain that one!

 

Actually, teh Noah bit is much older than the bible. Its first recorded occurances came out of Mesopotamia and Sumaria, and included different heros, and many more ships that just one, but there was an Arc....
Obviously, its a word of mouth story thats been handed down from generation to generation and probably embelished along the way.
My thoughts is that it originated after the Ice Age ended and the glaciers started to melt. Probably created one hell of puddle, combined with non-stop rains.

 

Ahh but the ice age still lives. Because for the world to be under ice age conditions the polar ice caps have to be bigger than normal (which they are, at least compared to how they've ever been) and the equator are is hot desert which it also is.
