    Here's a nice idea I thought of:
Instead of having every place marked at the very begining, wouldn't it be cooler and make more sense if general store merchants sold "A map of Arcanum" or something like that and if you had that THEN you would have everything marked?
Also... I downloaded it but it won't let me extract the patch1 file... what's wrong?? :-?

Your idea sounds like it could work. I've made a note of it.

The download: Are you able to extract the Arcanum5.dat but not the patch file?
If so, then a glitch occured during the download. The only thing I know to do is download it again. Sorry.

    Huh....

I can only think of one other - very - remote possibility.
Get the latest trial version of Winzip. I have no idea how old yours is but I did use one I got in May and zipped the folders with maximum bzip2 compression.

Edit: Just to be sure that Rapidshare hadn't somehow messed up my post, I just downloaded and unpacked it with both Winzip and Winrar. Not a problem.

Rapidshare is bad about that. Having to wait anywhere from 1 to 6 hours for another download can be a problem when you're eager to get your hands on something.

The good news is: If you can't go through a problem....

    Case sensitive!

This should get you around the download restrictions.

Of course, with the problems you're having, by the time you get this up and running, I'll be releasing the updated version. :p

rroyo, try to pack AWIP with Total Commander, not Winzip. Looks like your version of Winzip uses a new algorithm that is incompatible with most decompressor. Pack everything into it (so the lazy user won't need to actually do something :D).

And put it up on some torrent tracker, e.g. demonoid.

Oh great... Another bit of software....

Sorry Frigo - Winzip is the most commonly used compressor I know of.
And I did say in the first post: A newer version of Winzip. That's because I used a demo copy of the latest version (May 07) and used max compression to make sure the Zip-file stayed under 100 megs. (Max Rapidshare upload)

As for torrents: What few scraps I have learned about torrents tells me to stay the hell away from them. They sound too much like a file-sharing chain letter for my liking.

rroyo, if you want to press down the file size, try to use 7zip. This one has the best compression ratio whatsoever and it is free :)

If you're going to use 7zip, make an executable.

    And don't fucking use rapid-big-piece-of-shit-share.

    JaW: Welcome to the forum!
I got a copy of the latest. I'll check it out and see if it's any better than what Winzip or Winrar can do.

Frigo: Making the upcoming release an executable one has crossed my mind a time or two. Keep it simple - right?

And it looks like I'll need to open an account at Megaupload anyway, as the last save I zipped for storage came in at over 95 megs and I've been going like gangbusters since then.

BTW: Rapidshare is not bad for smaller single downloads. Unlike many others out there, you're not having to allow several pop-ups, pop-unders, ad-intrusions, or find almost hidden download links to get what you want.

Fileden is pretty good :) They allow direct linking to the files.

    Fileden looks good!

Direct downloads plus 1 gig file size storage for $5.00 a month - I can live with that.

    Thanks!

They also have a free account, but I forgot about the 50mb file size maximum... You could split it to more than one archive though.

Their FAQ doesn't say - so do you know if they allow multiple downloads or at least a very short wait time between downloads? (Non-member downloaders)

    Don't use Mega-bigger-shit-than-rapid-big-piece-of-shit-share-upload either

Hungary's download slots are always in use, since we're a small country with a lot of net addicts.

Well, they don't care really, as long as it's not more than 5GB a month. (The free account that is)
