The Gamesquad affiliate manager e-mailed me last week to offer a webmail service to Terra Arcanum. This would mean everybody'd be able to register a webmail e-mail account with us (this would either be an @terra-arcanum.com account or perhaps we'll register an entirely new domain for this).
I told him I'd ask around whether or not there'd be any interest for this. Do you think you guys would use such a webmail service? It's not like there aren't enough free webmail services available, but it might be cool to have an Arcanum'ish service among them. What do you think, would you use such a webmail service or not?

I think it would be cool. It takes the TA:HoLer cult to its next stage. It'll make it all the easier to synchronise our attacks when we all rise up and overthrow the governments in our respective countries.

By Webmail, can I assume you mean a web-browswer based e-mail system like Hotmail?

Yes. It will DEFINITELY contain advertising banners, as our hosts need to finance this service. So far, Gamesquad has mostly stayed away from the more intrusive ad systems so it shouldn't be *too* annoying. The features they're offering in terms of disk space and automatic virus scanning are pretty cool though. (I'll get more details on that later)

I think this would be cool also as long as the tag (anything after the @) was not TOO long. May be something like you@terrarc.com

    Alright,

It looks like the community interest is there. Now all I have to do is decide on a domain name and get things rolling...

    Options for the domain name:

    Terra-arcanum.net or terraarc.com :
    Advantages:
Has a clear connection to Terra Arcanum.
    Disadvantages:
Has a clear connection to Terra Arcanum: it might be better to pick something more generic-arcanumish, like the suggestions below
    arcaneemail.com or arcanummail.com

What do you guys think? Which domain(s) do you like best?

Arcanumail sounds good, where do we sign up?

Or, how about @ta.com. Nice and simple with minimum typing. Downside is that "ta" is probably registered to a porn site.

ta-hol is available. Not that I think there is anything wrong with arcanumail. Then there is terramail. Just being contrary, don't mind me.

    Yes, like:

Polite looking man: Arcanumail? *eyebrows raised in enquiry*
Under-dressed model-type woman: I can with this new service from TA! *bright fixed smile*

ta-hol sounds funny and it incorporates the site and the forum into the name. I like that one, too.

Hey Calis, I'm all for this. As for the name, @houseoflords.com doesn't sound too bad. @arcanumail isn't that good though - what the hell is an arcanu? That's what I'd be thinking if I saw that.

We could, of course, go for @arcanun.com, but that'd just look like bad spelling, instead of having people realise that it is the name of the rare arctic nun...
