Arcanum trouble

Okay i didnt know where to post this so the General forum will have to do.

Every time i try to start my Arcanum it shows the sierra and troika logos but then when it gets to the loading screen with the train on it the game just crashes and throws me back to my desktop.

Anybody know what could cause this.

 

That happened to me once, too.

Re-install Aracanum. You will come to a spot where it installs and additional program and says "Do NOT click restart!". I didn't read it the first time and restarted, and that happened. I then went back and did it over again, correctly, and it worked just fine.

P.S. learn from my mistake because I spent nearly $30 in long-distance calls to Sierra and Troika support to fix the problem and they didn't help at all!

 

Ctrl+Alt+Del and close everything but explorer. Start Arcanum, if it loads enjoy as you only have to perform the C+A+D operation once.

I tried to shut down everything else than explorer and systray and install it again.Guess what!

IT DIDNT WORK!!!! :grin:

Any other advice.I didnt quite understand youres nbrosz.Do you mean the part where you switch CD's.

 

Try to uninstall the game, instal it and do that ctrl+alt+del thing then let the game take its time. Tha same thing happened to me. For my lousy computer it took like fiften minutes, apperantly the computer needs to get the files in place or something. Do not try to klick or anything, just give the game some time.

 

I know that it has the first start time wait that is long but it doesnt even start that.It just crashes and puts me back into the desktop.

 

Need more info. What OS are you using? You may have to update Windows Installer.

I had the same problem back when I first got the game. I was running Win98 and having the exact same problem as you are, Gabriel. I fixed it by:
-Uninstalling Arcanum
-Upgrading Windows Installer
-Reinstalling Arcanum

If that doesn't work, then I don't know. Try installing all the Windows updates for whatever version you are using, then uninstall/reinstall Arcanum. Try turning off any virus scanners during the install. Make sure your drivers are up to date, but not betas. If they are up to date, then try the betas. It might do something, you never know.

 

I'm using win98, release 2.1 and that works fine. However, I know someone who used the original win98, and couldn't get it to install properly, so maybe Milo has something....

 

Well, none of the advices above helped but thanks for trying.Im running on ME so the installer shouldnt be the problem.Could the crashes be caused by my detonator 3 drives.

 

So that shady figure that told me that detonating everything in sight wont cause any trouble was wrong.Geee, dont i feel stupid now.And after all those cities too.

Try to see if you can find a few install FAQ and ask at the sierra game support forums.

 

Well i came to the conclusion that its not working because of my detonator3 drives.

So can anyone help me on how to degrade my drivers.

This all reminds me of the time i had exactly the same problem. I did something really simple like change the desktop resolution or something similar, maybe i just tilted my head to the side.

hows that for untechnical then.
