Ok so Arcanum has allways been lagging for me on this PC, I'm not sure why. It's just generally slow when like opening my backpack and loading and whatnot. I'm running it with admin priveliges and windows 2000 compatibility mode. Is it because I'm using Windows Vista? At Liam's workshop, when I'm at the portal, the lagg is almost unbareable! Maybe it's my Quad Core processor? I've tried running it on 1 core, it helps a little bit. Is there any ways to like set the computer to allways use 1 core on a specific program? Because I have to re-set it to 1 core every time I start the game. Any ideas? Is this even the right place to post this?
Strange. I have a dual core Vista machine, and Arcanum runs like a charm. Haven't even put it in compatibility mode actually. Are you using 32 bit or 64 bit?
64 bit. So I just started running it on 1024x768, I lag quite alot on menu's and in my backpack, though advancing time is almost instant. Before it was really slow.. This seems quite odd to me.
I have the same problem when playing on my computer that also got vista, lags like hell in menus, but when i fire it up on my laptop that has XP installed, no lag at all, guess it got something to do with Vista then?
Seems to be running nicely on vista for DE :/ Man I've been getting some graphical bugs lately aswell.
Works great on my Vista as well. I'm running the 32bit OS in compatability mode for XP SP2. I rarely get lag.
Well, I'm also using 32 bit Vista, because I feared there would be compatibility issues with older games if I chose to go with 64 bit. Seems I was right. If nothing else works, my suggestion is that you install XP and use that when you play older games.
You mean like using one of them virtual PC program? Because I cant use all my RAM if I install XP, and my RAM is my pride.
If you can find a decent program to fix your problems, then go ahead. But if you can't find any, just install XP on your machine and use that when you want to play Arcanum (I'm very sure 4+ GB RAM is quite sufficient for any game made by Troika). You can have multiple operative systems, you know.
Ah yes I've heard of that actually, though I think it's rather complicated, isnt it? :/ Nevermind, I belive I'll give it a try. It can't be that hard to find a 'For Dummies' guide using google.
Shouldn't be complicated at all. Just install XP normally without formatting your Vista partition. You should be given a choice between Vista and XP at every startup. But I'm sure there are better workarounds.
multicore CPUs often cause performance problems. I think the keywords to search here are "set CPU affinity" i think you can set it in task manager after you started the program. forcing the game to run on one core. Not sure about the exact way though, since i have a singlecore CPU.
