Okay, here we go with not a very pleasant one... Arcanum graphics. Almost everyone on this board has already more or less critisized it. I suggest to discuss its role a little bit more thoroughly. The main question is the following: IS THE GRAPHICS THAT IMPORTANT it the game like Arcanum? I don't think so!

    1. The graphics in the game is not _THAT_ bad, as I have expected it to be after watching the recent trailer and reading the posts of the other respected guys, while I haven't seen it myself.

    2. At the same time, the animation mechanics didn't go too far from that of Fallout 2. IMHO, graphics (not gameplay!) of FOT is 10 times better than in the Arcanum Demo.

    3. The graphics in SUCH games (meaning the exciting CRPGs) is not very important. The gameplay, character upgrades, levels, conversations, stealing, backstabbing, betraying, love, hate, etc. - this IS IMPORTANT. For me at least.

Indeed, taste is more important then decoration.

Still i prefer eating from porcelain over eating from the ground.

Too bad, boy, too bad! You love the graphics or the game? Even being the part of the game, it's graphics is only a SMAAALLL part of it, don't you think so? And, no offence to Troika, it's level is really low.

Solid Snake, I totally agree. As long as the graphics are functional, they are ok. For example, Halflife has been out for what, 3-4 years? the graphics by todays standards arent that great, but it has a very good engine, because it CAN produce stuff like shadows, colored lighting and stuff that can be necessary in order to make a scary effect or whatever on the player. The only thing that newer engines has over HL is large areas. Better lighting and higher resoluted textures doesnt really add anything.

The only thing that is wrong with the graphics in Arcanum is the resoulution (well actually also the fact that you cant see very far away from your PC.

BTW, go play Avernum all of you. One of the best CRPGs ever. http://www.avernum.com

I don't think the graphics in Arcanum are that bad, but I don't think they're that good either.

It would be nice if you could change resolution though.

In fact the arcanum graphics is way better then the fo one. At least the avatars of the follower now reflect changes in armor.

We should be thankful for every little bit.

We are talking about graphics too on a French Arcanum forum.
Some of the people like the graphics, the others think that they stink.

I think that they are "acceptable". Ok, at the beginning I thought that river was a highway.... but the graphics aren't so bad and damn ! .... it's a RPG !!!

I gotta agree korny its the role playing element that is the most important thing to me...I guess it just depends on whether you play Arcanum because you are a Gamer or because you are a Roleplayer...

Well, as for dated-ness and acceptablity of the graphics, I compare the graphics to some of the more popular games out there. Namely Daiblo II and The Sims.

Even IF, the graphical eleit proclaim that the technology of arcanum's graphics are "dated" (meaning not using a technology less then a year old), I don't realy think most people will care.

So I don't care if you don't like the graphics. Graphics don't matter.

Part of the reason the river looked like a highway to you is that the water art/animation is missing from the Demo, methinks.

Oh, and I also think that the art in Arcanum is very nice. I don't need gratuitous eye-candy in my CRPGs.
