Arcanum Game-killing Bugs

OK...

1/ How the fuck do I save?

The game won't let me. I press ESCAPE and 90% of the time nothing happens. Sometimes I get the Main menu/Preferences/Load option on the menu. Very rarely I get the ability to save. Quick save does not work ever.

Last time I saved successfully was in the Inn at Shroud whatever (mining town near crash). I go through the bridge bandits quest and I'm looking for Tarant (nowhere on the map??) and I want to save again. Not possible. I tried in every screen (Map/Inventory/Character), put my weapon away, rearmed it... doesn't matter. I go all the way back to the town, back to the inn and try to save. Still can't.

The manual doesn't explain shit.

Why didn't the Devs put a button on the game screen to access the main menu?

2/ Every so often I load up and the whole isometric/game world part of the screen is black. Apparently completely random.

3/ How the hell do I pick up items? It seems totally random as well. Most of the time I click on something on the ground and my idiot character drags it over to where he is. I worked out I can search bodies by using Pickpocket skill.

The e-manual explains it by telling you to look at a screenshot which is completely useless because it's been taken in 400*320 resolution or something.

The FAQ on Terra-arcanum is equally useless.

I really wanted to like this game but it's driving me crazy.

This is a brand new 2-CD copy and supposedly with the latest patches.

 

1) this is probably because you alt-tabbed between arcanum and windows. try to do so once more, or try pressing ctrl, or alt, or ctrl-s, esc... I don't remember the exact key combination that "debug" the game

2) your saved games are (or your arcanum is) probably corrupted. try loading an earlier game.
(this can happen by numerous reasons)

3) again, this happened to me because of the alt-tab bug

And make sure you have the latest, 1.0.7.4 patch.

 

Thanks both of you. I worked out about that alt-tabbing.

For anybody having these problems what you have to do is [Alt-ESCAPE] which goes back to your windows desktop. Then click the Arcanum window and everything should be normal.

Now I'm starting to enjoy the game...
