...or even better a sequel ?

because it looks like FO3 will never happen.

I read somewhere (the VN Boards, I think) that the devs work on mods during their spare time. Plus, I imagine people will be putting out some mods.

The only reason I'm playing arcanum is because I am a total Fallout fan. I even burned the gloomy tracks on cd and listen to it just about everyday. That's how retarded I am about fallout. But Arcanum turned out great as well even if it's about swords and fairies.
That news snippet is from february and I believe there was one update after that that didn't say very much. Everytime BlackIsle started working on some other game or expansion pack and put FO3 on hold time after time. the recent news isn't very good considering the way economics work in the game industry, this is from september:
    ___________________________________________
Fallout and Fallout 2 were modest sellers. They were profitable, but not grand slam hits by any means. I loved Fallout and Fallout 2. A lot of the guys around BIS (especially Chris Avellone) and a lot of people here, on Vault13, at Duck and Cover, and No Mutants Allowed, have had terrific ideas for Fallout 3.* I've said it before: we would really love to do Fallout 3. We talk about it often, we write things up, and we hope that we'll have the opportunity to make it in the future. Like I said, though, we need a solid amount of time and manpower to get the job done right. Fallout/SPECIAL is Black Isle's most popular self-owned property, and if we make another sequel, we must try to exceed the quality presented in Fallout and Fallout 2.
    * However, a lot of them are also completely out of their mind
    ________________________________________

it has the staus of pet project, but no real work is being done, so it will take at least a couple of years if ever.

    It sucketh.

    /EDIT
The arcanum mods look interesting. But it's still too early I guess.

I'm hoping that it won't be, but I have the sinking feeling that it will.

But then again, I'd be perfectly happy if they kept the exact same engine as Fallout II and just made a new story line. The graphics (or lack of) don't bother me at all. I loved the combat system.

Mucking around with it might make it better, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Truth of the matter is, though, that it Fallout III could suck shit, and I'd probably still buy it.

    Roger that.
I'm a bit leery of the 3d engine thing. I love isometric sprite art.

say Ioo , are you new to FO2 ?

I'm leery as hell about a 3D Fallout 3, simply because 3D for Interplay means LITHTECH. Right now, they can't afford any other engine, and since they licensed lithtech YEARS ago..

I'm not real hopeful for a good follow up to Fallout at this point given the fact that Feargus Urqahart seems to think they sound make Fallout more like Baldur's Gate in order to boost sales.

No I'm not new to FO2, but haven't played it in a while. I'd hate to see anything major change, just a new story line and change like from FO1 to FO2 (some weapons a coupla new graphics and little things like perks and traits, maybe even new skills could be nice) other then that it's all good, even the continuous bugs  At least they're not making it first person.

I think we should all get together and make a fallout mod (people actually do that but most aren't new games, just few weapon changes and stuff like that). Who wanna do that?.. Of course that would require alot of coding (methinks)

If there would be a decent editor it could be done, but even then ironing out all the logic loops alone will be a very boring task of endlessly testplaying.
I like it better when other people do the work and I get to have the fun.
I'm into mapmaking for Delta Force though. That's fun.

Delta force 2 and 3 are a total failure... 2nd one isn't anything diff from 1st one, but seems worse. And 3rd one isnt different either but graphics are polygonal, but that's not a big step forward for a game with poor game play.

Oh and about FO2, it's not much work if people have done it... alot of people. we just need to find someone up to the task. I can provide a story! :p

No way ! DF3 online rules. DF1 was fun single play because the missions were good. In DF3 the single play was merely an afterthought. It was meant for online.
I haven't been so completely hooked since Fallout

I donno i tried it in mp but didn't get any kick outta it. You can't have mp give u as much kick as sp, because in sp you get it out of the atmosphere and story. And both of those are mostly absent in mp because you can't have 1000 players be the hero of the world at once, and you cannot have one main plot, because it would be beaten fast, and players would have to compete (so most are screwed) or cooperate where it's just stupid to have 1000 players doing the same thing (also an rpg which works for 1000 ppl is incredibly hard to make, especially if you want it to be good). If its not massive mp it's not as much trouble but still...players disagree, and if it's dueling then it's just a fighter game. We could see taht on eaxmple of arcanum mp...pretty much horrible.

it gets boring if u have already beat it 10000000000000000000000000 time and if u have already killed every living thing
