Another Vista Post

I just got my copy from Amazon (only ten dollars new, not bad at all) in the mail today. Needless to say I ran upstairs and installed it. Right after it was installed I tried it out and it worked, although I did not have time to start playing due to class. After that initial attempt the following occurred (which I searched for and other people have complained about similar problems too), the "Sierra" intro and "Troika" logo would appear followed by the loading image, then immediately after the program would close, returning me back to my desktop. I tried the compatibility changes, and realized that the game will only work right after I installed it, but only once.

I downloaded the last official patch and attempted to install it but I am unsure it worked.

I have Vista 64 bit, btw.

Some other posts described the same problems, but suddenly, with no apparent explanation, they replied to their own posts simply saying something to the extent of "never mind it works now!" leaving the solution in the dark.

Please help me, and I apologize is this type of post seems redundant. I tried to find answers prior to posting via the search, but as explained I was unsuccessful. Please post what worked for you and how you got it to run! Thanks!

 

I've yet to hear a foolproof way for getting it to play on 64bit.

The one I've heard most often works running it as admin in XP SP2 compatibility in safe mode.

 

Nobody ever remembers what I've to say on this topic. I installed Arcanum on 64bit ultimate, and ran it without issues. Period. If you're'ving issues, it's most likely due to you, and not your operating system. However, since I've nothing to do today, I'll dig out my disks, and install again, just to see if I wind up eating my words. Please stay tuned.
