I'm new to this forum, and have a few questions that have probably been asked enough as it is; however, I refuse to scour the many pages of questions to look for specific answers. So: Is the Hand Cannon "rebalanced" in the 1.0.7.4 version? I ask this because it still does an absurd amount of damage and is extremely easy to come by. It also seems to corrupt my files still! I have to make many backups of my file in Tarant just to keep my good file (lvl +/- 20 thief technologist gunslinger), and it would seem easier just to do without the Cannon. Is there some other reason my files could be corrupting? Also, is it possible to teach a follower a found schematic? I don't want to have to lug all this crap around just to find out I cannot teach them new schematics! Is Magnus worth it? He seems kind of like a wanker. Well, that's it.
Well, welcome to the forum then! :wavey: I'm afraid you're lugging around with all that crap for no good. The answer is no, you can't teach schematics to your followers. I know, it's not fun, but look at it this way - what point would there be to be a technologist character if you could let your followers do all the cheesy stuff? I think he's kind of nice. He's a melee character, and perfectly cut as a meat shield. Besides, he has an interesting story, good voice acting, lots of dialog and the ability to create things from the smithy and the mechanical disciplines. Not too shabby. Of course, since he's lv8 when you get him, he might still not be a viable alternative if you've gotten too far into the game... I'll leave it up to wiser minds to help you out with the other questions. Hopefully, Arcanum experts like Solaris or Shadygrove will see this. Heh, Shadygrove... - could someone please tell me were that oldtimer is hiding anyway?
Welcome to the forum. Don't worry, there is always some people here ready to answer your questions. In 1.0.7.4 version the Hand Cannon damage is increased to 5-35. I wouldn't call it an "absurd" ammount of damage- in its unpatched version the Hand Cannon was hardly any better than a common Fine Revolver. I was annoyed at its ineffectiveness. Yes, it is easy to come by- would you prefer going through seven circles of hell to get it then? Sorry, I have never encoutered this problem. It could be some other item doing that. Have you done the Firearms Master quest? If you have, and you have taken the Smoke Grenade when looting the corpses- it is probably what causes the bug. This item is very buggy. No. Shame, I know. For a good oriented techie Magnus is an excellent companion. He can make some items that may come in handy- Pure Ore (needed for one quest and a couple of items you might want to make), Balanced Swords (excellent weapon for low ST melee fighters, can be used to make Charged or Envenomed swords), Feather Weight Axe (excellent weapon in itself, can be used for making the infamous Pyrotechnic axe-the ultimate tech melee weapon), Auto skeleton key (better than common lockpicks) and eye gear (+2PE, can be used for making a Googled Helmet and makes a great income source when you sell them to the Junk Dealer). Also, at level 50 Magnus is a fully developed melee fighter with ST21. His presence in your party can award you with two fate points as you advance in the game, and, finally, if your character is a dwarf, you will surely want his family relic- that mysterious gauntlet that gives you +2ST,DX and CN, and does fire damage when you fight unarmed.
Thanks for the help, guys. As for whether the Hand Cannon is "absurd"ly powerful or not, I maintain my stance. And the seven circles of hell aren't necessary; just plain old fashioned constructing a Hand Cannon would suffice. It's like Sword of Baltar-ing from long range (and at 17 speed)! Okay, so maybe that's an exaggeration. The found schematics bit is sort of a disappointment, but I finally learned the usage of all those damned tech books to make constructing stuff so much easier! Also, I heard somewhere that there is a way to "tame" mechanical spiders that are hostile. I had the sneaking suspicion I was being put on, though...
Hand Cannon's speed is 13, not 17. And with a sword you get double damage bonus once you reach ST20+, for which the Hand Cannon makes up with being a ranged weapon. I'd like to hear what you have to say after you build a Warbringer  Congrats! Most people need it explained. I did. :/ You need to sneak up on them and touch them before they detect you, I think. I never really bother doing that. If you need a spider- make one yourself. But I prefer live followers. They are more fun to have around than a soulless piece of junk metal with clockwork thingy inside.
Cannon is speed 13, not as great as I thought. I have just a few more quick questions... Is it better or worse to level up early on? As previously stated, I was level 20 when I reached Tarant, and I was worried that Sogg (who was level 15 or so at the time) would not reach his full potential. Also, I tried the really cheap way of getting shopkeeper's equipped items (provided they have more than one, just drag the items to the red "drop" part of your inventory and the items they were equipped with make a pile at their feet, then you drop some of your items and you can pick theirs up, supposedly, if you are standing close enough. Damn that was one run on sentence), yet I can't get it to work: I do everything right, but once I exit the inventory screen the shopkeeper just grabs up all his stuff again really fast. Perhaps I shouldn't be complaining about a malfunctioning cheat? Ah, well. By the way, I am patched with v1.0.7.4. Well, that's about it. Thanks for the speedy responses.
