What? How does a people become less tolerant.

Generally, whenever a society meets with a setback of any kind, we start looking for folks to blame and tolerance levels are drastically decreased. In the case of economic decline it's the nasty, nasty immigrants that are the first to be blamed (stealing all the jobs, they are!), but all minorities tend suffer.

As for the next Nazi regime, I'm thinking either Hungary or Greece.

According to what i know, Nazism, was a social movement, rather than just an attitude, the attitude is called fascism.

Yet, fascism, or what ever you can call it never ceases to amaze me in all the ways and times that it can return from oblivion and become a part of society, at times, oh so publicly accepted.

 

Apparently ninety percent of the Swedes are gay and overly humanistic. So sayeth the Finnish Nazis. Oh, and they worship Lucifer, since Jesus was overly humanistic too.

Fear is a powerful motivator - responsible for all bad behavior, I believe. Fear + mob mentality = no good can come of this.

Oddly, too, Hitler wasn't even the worst offender when it comes to genocide. Chairman Mao, anyone? Though I guess you could then argue that in China it wasn't true genocide. Also, I hate to think that communism was a worse offender in the world than fascism.

Either way, I sort of doubt either Hitler or pretend Hitlers or Chairman Mao would have been supporters of gay marriage.

I'm trying to remember if there's ever been another day in my life where I was called a Nazi three times in one day.

This may well be a record.

Also, I'd like to clarify that I don't think we, as people, need to get gross human rights violations out of our systems in terms of forgetting or ignoring them. That being said, I do wonder about acknowledging and hanging onto wounds vs healing and moving on. Sometimes in the States I wonder if African Americans aren't their own worst enemies... then I think about how we are not really that far removed from slavery and I feel like a jerk.

I guess on a personal level it's just - do we want to be victims of the shit things that have happened in our lives or not?

I think it's human nature to gripe about a common enemy. It's the us-vs-them mentality that we're all programmed with. So in the absence of an actual common enemy, we'll invent one. If the Nazis hadn't existed, we'd be calling No.9 a communist, or an Australian, or something equally awful.
