I bought a mboard recently and as it is based on VIA694 chipset it does not allow for GeForce cards to run at AGPx4 (there is instability). I therefore consider sending my mboard back and getting something based on Intel's i815 chipset but as I read that one has quite some limitations of its own. My questions are: 1) Is there another chipset on which Socket370 motherboards are based 2) Is AGPx4 worth the trouble at all? I heard from a few people already that even though it runs at twice the speed of AGPx2 (133MHz instead of 66) the increase in speed is almost unnoticeable. 3) Is there some program with which I could force AGPx4 to become active? GeForce tweak utility doesn't work. Please answer quickly (esp. questions 1&2) as I will send my mboard to have it replaced on Tuesday.
I bought a new motherboard the other day. Me old one packed up Just bought the same motherboard again as the old one, no point in upgrading it until I need a whole new computer in a years time. Umm.... So yeah... Go with option number 4. aranoid:
For more motherboards, try PCMech, you can sort em out by socket and chipset and such, might be handy. They also have a bunch of articles, and a grand forum. You might try asking those questions there to get some answers.
Thanks Rat - I read about the chipsets and I think I will give up on this one. The only relatively new alternate chipset for Socket 370 is Intel i815 which, although there are no problems with AGPx4, has other limitations. As I have not heard about dramatic speed increase I decided not to exchange a 1-problem motherboard for a 3-problem one.
