Since most of us are Fallout fans, I hope that you've heard about Age of Decadence. It is being developed by a fine Codexian by the name of Vault Dweller and it is apparently up for release quite soon. If you haven't tried the combat demo yet, be sure to give it a whirl. Those of you that love TB combat will surely appreciate it.

Vault Dweller is making a game? That... that should be very very good.

It is extremely good news for RPG purists.

Hey, I stumbled across Age of Decadence recently on an unrelated matter, and didn't think anything of it at the time (busy clicking through the page to get somewhere else). Perhaps I will look again.

Well, I've decided to help VD out by hosting the Combat Demo and the "true" demo once it is released. My reasoning is that we are a Troika fansite, and anything that carries the banner of Fallout and Arcanum should receive our help.

Because we are purists and we tend to view Fallout 3 in the same light as we view FO:BOS.

So why don't we have Fallout 3 materials on our site?

Techincally, it isn't a Troika creation.

We surely do not want Fallout 3 riffraff sniffing around this place. monocle

Besides, who here would have any interest in producing said materials?

I liked Fallout 3, I think Bethesda would make a fine Arcanum 2.

Fallout 3 was an amazing game. Very intricately crafted world. Who gives two shits that it wasn't the same old clunky shit as FO1/2.

You said it, Drog. Honestly, I think Fallout was a terrible series before number 3 came along. Too bad they had to ruin it with New Vegas.

I heard that for the next Fallout game they are planning to revise the S.P.E.C.I.A.L system for character attributes. Players generally didn't understand how the Luck score affected their actions in the game, so they're replacing that with "Tenacity", which is supposed to represent the character's determination and willpower. They're also renaming Endurance to "Stamina". So the new stats will be as follows:

    Strength
    Perception
    Agility
    Stamina
    Tenacity
    Intelligence
    Charisma

Sadly it means that the acronym "SPECIAL" doesn't work any more, but I'm sure they'll come up with an alternative name for this revised system.

You know... I liked Fallout 3 too. I've also taken an arrow to the knee, what with the Skyrim addiction I've had to deal with as of late.

I'd be the first to admit that Bethesda has improved vastly since Oblivion. The problem as I see it is not that Beth makes shitty games, because they really haven't in recent years. The problem is that they're doing the wrong kind of games. Fallout and Arcanum were great because they employed choices and consequences. Just look at Shrouded Hills -
you have to leave the village, but the bridge out is guarded by a band of thugs demanding a hefty toll for crossing the bridge. Depending on the strengths of your character, you now have several options. You could, of course, kill them - but that can be extremely difficult for someone who isn't a warrior or battlemage, what with Lukan's ogre bodyguards and all. Of course, there are a number of peaceful solutions - a thief might pickpocket the key off of Lukan and sneak his way out. A diplomat could trick Lukan into believing that the Living One is representing the Thieves Guild and intimidate him to leave. An evil character could help Lukan out by sabotaging the other bridge that the townspeople are building. Finally, one could just pay the toll, and I'm sure there are other options that I'm forgetting. It's things like this that define classic RPG's, and Bethesda simply doesn't create games of that kidney.

F3 is a really enjoyable shooter with fun exploration aspects. Pity a silly plot and cheesy dialogues ruin it as a role playing game.

Other than that, no game where you can't have sex with a hooker can be called a true Fallout game.

Heeey, can you have sex with a hooker in New Vegas?

I now consider the original Leisure Suit Larry a Fallout game, complete with choices and consequences.

Witticisms aside, more maturity in CRPG's please, and ratings to hell. Frank Zappa was so fucking right.

I can have sex with a hooker in real life too, does that mean we are living in a true Fallout game?
