    I am a suspicious bastard.

I thought maybe this was Sheriff Fatman fucking with our heads. There's no way those are the same color, I thought. So I compared the color values of the two squares in Photoshop.
    • Square A
      • Red=107
      • Green=107
      • Blue=107
    • Square B
      • Red=107
      • Green=107
      • Blue=107

So as you can see, the British have obviously hacked into Photoshop to jack the eye dropper tool so they can fool us stupid Americans into believing their little "optical illusion", probably undermining our Homeland Defense in the process.

I was just fucking with your heads. Nothing does that better than putting up something honest and letting your sick internal workings build something sinister out of it.

Only kidding, I only posted it 'cos it went round at work and I found it interesting.

I used ColorPicker and got the same result, hence my gray sentence. So that means.... They hacked my program too

    Try this one:

Which center circle is bigger? :)

The circles thing I've seen before, but not the squares. Well it must be a really good optical illusion, cos I still think B is a lighter shade :p

    (Emphasis added)

I'm pretty sure dictionarys isn't accepted, British English or no. Though WordWeb seems to accept it, funnily enough.

    [Edit]
I still can't get over it! I tried Photoshops colour picker too and got the same values. Then I inverted the colours and tried the picker again, and the results were the same! I refuse to believe this. S_F, would you post an inverted picture so they can see what I mean?

My mouse cursor is broken - when I move it over any of those 2, obviously different in size, center circles it either gets larger or smaller because the cursor fiils them both to the same degree.

Hoho - he don't know me wewy well, do he?

No, I can't. For starters, I don't know how to invert stuff and I have no graphic software installed. My skills stretch to saving an e-mail attachment and posting it for your perusal. I'm sad to say, they do not extend into the area of image jiggery pokery.

You don't need any fancy programs, S_F... just bring up MSPaint, open the image, and press CTRL+I. That's it! :D

I agree with tzehoong. This optical illusion is on another level than the ones I've seen before. Most of them, like the circle one posted earlier, I can sort of see through. Like I know that my eyes are being fooled. This one just does not register. There's no way those two squares are the same color.

EDIT - To save anyone the trouble of checking, the Eye Dropper in Photoshop says that both the A and B tiles are R,G,B = 148.

The squares are the same colour. It is the juxtaposition of other colours that fools you. Try covering up the letters and the surrounding squares (it's tricky but you can do it). The areas left visible do look like the same colour at that point.

Eyes are not infallible - we know that. Our brains process the input from them in all kinds of ways.

It's the same with other sensory organs. Just consider what's actually being played on an MP3. Where does all that lost sound go? Our ears fill it in for us.

Guys, I can't believe I'm the only one who actually can see it. Here's how I do it. Let your eyes rest a a point directly between Square A and Square B. Then, kinda blur your eyes up a bit, just like you would do with one of those hidden picture puzzles. B is the same color.

If that still doesn't work, here's what you do. Take a piece of paper, cut out just big enough squares for A and B, and hold it up to the screen. Viola! Same color.
