A question from a newb..

    I was wondering..in your mod, can you make people talk..such as Virgil or Magnus in Arcanum? Any help appreciated..[/quote]

    If you know anything about scripting, then I will spare you the details. If now, then write back and I will calrify, but since I dont have much time i will give you abasic run-through.

    When you create your follower, you're going to need to attach a conditional script to them: One for the PC having NOT met them and NOT having them in their party, and one for after they join. (Or if you're crafty, you can just make one dialogue tree with innumerable options.) This script is attacked to the NPC's dialogue flag, and then every time you click on them in the map, even if they follow you, it will (should) call up that script of dialogue. If you want them to be like virgil, and be able to offer you hints to get through an area, then you would need to set up tons of different dialogue options for every area, and make whether the character (NPC) says them or not dependent on how your quests are doing.

    For example...
    {1}{What do you need?}{Can I help you?}{}{}{}{}
    {2}{Where are we THIS time?}{}{1}{quXXXX X}{20}{}
    {3}{Now what do we do?}{And what now?}{}{1}{quXXXX X}{30}{}

    The quXXXX X In the test field will not allow you to pick that particular dialogue option UNTIL you have that particular quets in a given state (see the manual for quest states.) This stops them from finding out how to become God prior to cleansing themselves from the mortal plane, as an example.

    Now then. I am certain that there is a better, easier way involving scripts, but as time goes by I find myself liking the dialogue stuff more and more. So for now, you have an answer, and if sdomeone posts a better way later, you're no worse off. If this was all totally confusing and worthless, I'm sorry, i will be on later and will try to work through it in more detail.

    It's OK..I knew it would be impossible for me to do. I am the newest of newbies, so that is OUT OF REACH for me..

    I am very young, and can't understand everything, you see.

    If you're that new, I highly recommend the AMTUT tutorial for mod-making. You will find it to be most helpful--I was brand new a month ago, and I am now making decent headway in a fairly complex (I flatter myself to think) module. Just type in AMTUT tutorial in any search engine, and it will take you to Dark Underlord's homepage where you can view/download it.

    Just be sure that, if you do, you drop him a line and tell him thanks.

    This is something AMTUT could not cover. I exaggerated, I guess. I'm not a NEW NEW NEW newb, but I am about three fourths through my mod and wanna know if I can make some important people talk (Like Virgil, Magnus, and Gar in the Arcanum mod)

    Well, one thing you could do, is download Arcanun and undat Arcanum.dat Then, check out the dialough and script files for Virgil and Magnus and whoever you want to know about. Just a little file tweaking.

    I am probably a bigger newbie then you are, then. I just have no idea what to do. What is wrong with AMTUT, anyway? How long has it been since DU worked on it?

    Lol, I'm the biggest newb here, I have trouble setting up the proper tiles for the elven village...is there any way to undo something in that editor?
